As a Breast Ultrasound Technologist, you will use your technical expertise, critical thinking, and patient care skills to provide high-quality diagnostic ultrasound imaging. Key Responsibilities
Technical Excellence
- Perform high-quality diagnostic breast ultrasound exams-including routine, emergent, portable, biopsy, and intraoperative procedures-in accordance with departmental protocols.
- Apply strong knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, pathology, and sonographic imaging techniques.
- Acquire, label, and document images accurately; discuss findings with radiologists as needed.
- Ensure complete and accurate patient information in all clinical/RIS systems.
- Participate in QA activities and report equipment issues promptly.
- Support operational flexibility by rotating shifts and taking on-call assignments (including holidays).
- Maintain productivity and meet established accuracy/error standards.
Patient Care
- Provide a safe, compassionate, and patient-centered imaging experience.
- Confirm patient identity and review clinical history prior to imaging.
- Recognize signs of distress and respond to clinical emergencies appropriately.
- Utilize sterile technique where applicable.
- Communicate clearly with patients, families, and care teams.
- Notify radiologists immediately about urgent or critical exam findings.
- Maintain clean, well-stocked exam rooms and assist in department workflow.
Compliance & Professional Standards
- Maintain required licensure and certifications.
- Follow institutional, departmental, and regulatory policies.
- Participate in mandatory training, drills, and continuing education.
- Document procedures, patient concerns, variances, and biopsy paperwork accurately.
- Ensure proper coding and data entry for accurate billing.
Operations & Workflow
- Contribute to performance improvement initiatives.
- Identify workflow and patient-experience enhancements.
- Manage patient flow efficiently through prioritization and critical thinking.
- Support downtime procedures and communicate with leadership during outages.
- Report equipment malfunctions and assist in troubleshooting.
- Serve as a resource for scheduling, throughput, and section efficiency.

- Act as lead technologist when needed in the supervisor's absence.
- Support faculty with research-related imaging or tasks.
- Participate in special projects and departmental initiatives.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
EDUCATION
- Required: Graduation from an accredited program of ultrasound technology or radiologic technology.
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Preferred: 2 years Experience in diagnostic ultrasound.
