Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

FSAs allow you to set aside money from your earnings before taxes into an account used to pay certain out-of-pocket health care expenses with the Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA) or qualifying dependent daycare expenses with the Dependent Care Reimbursement Account (DCRA). This reduces the amount you pay in taxes and increases your spendable income.

Pre-tax savings by enrolling in one of the following:

  • UT Flex Healthcare Reimbursement Account (HCRA)
    • Medically necessary health care expenses, including dental and vision-related expenses paid out-of-pocket during your period of coverage.
  • UT Flex Dependent Care Reimbursement Account (DCRA)
    • Used for daycare expenses for dependent children up to age 13 or your spouse or dependent who is physically or mentally unable to care for themselves.

By default, coverage for employees and covered dependents begins on the hire date for all plans, and premiums are not prorated.

For coverage to begin on the first of the month following the hire date, new hires must email HRBenefits@mdanderson.org within 31 days of hire to request this option.

Eligible employees can earn $15 per month Work Life Choice Award by participating in one of the approved plans below.

Current or Previous State of Texas Employees

State service credit is earned when you work for a State of Texas agency or a Texas public institution of higher education. State service impacts your monthly PTO accrual rate and longevity pay. Longevity Pay is provided for full-time employees and pays $20 each month for every two years of state service.

To transfer your prior state service:

  • Send the MDA Previous State Service Form to your previous state institution(s) within your first week of employment. Once the completed form is received by the HR Benefits Office at MD Anderson, it will be processed, and you will receive a confirmation email.

Transferring from another UT System Institution to UT MD Anderson with no break in service?

  • Your benefits will remain the same and automatically continue at MDA with no break in coverage.

Transferring from another State of Texas Agency with no break in service?

  • You will need to enroll in benefits with UT MD Anderson within your 31-day new hire enrollment period. Coverage with the previous institution should be effective through the end of the month, and coverage with MDA is effective the first of the month following the hire date.

Note: Employment at an independent school district or community college in Texas does not qualify as state service credit for vacation leave and longevity purposes, though employment often qualifies as creditable service with the Teacher Retirement System. If you have questions regarding whether previous employment counts toward your state service credit, refer to the Texas State Agencies list.
