Student Extern - Enterprise Dev & Integration

As a Student Extern in Enterprise Development & Integration, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting enterprise systems while learning directly from skilled IT professionals in a collaborative, real-world environment. This role is designed to help you build foundational technical skills while gaining exposure to large-scale systems used in healthcare, research, and operations.

Summary

The Student Extern provides technical assistance to various teams while gaining hands-on experience and developing job-related skills. Under supervision, the extern supports system analysis, troubleshooting, documentation, and technical maintenance tasks in an enterprise IT environment.

**The ideal Junior or Senior student will be working towards an IT Bachelor's or Master's degree and live in the local Houston area. The externship is approx. 6 months and part time 19 hours/week.**

Major Work Activities

Analysis, Diagnosis & Problem Solving
  • Analyze source documents, database structures, and reporting requirements to support system functionality.
  • Assist in diagnosing system issues and contribute to proposing thoughtful technical solutions.
  • Monitor system health and performance, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the resolution of hardware, software, operating system, and system integration issues under guidance.

Technical Changes & Environment Maintenance
  • Assist with keeping operating systems updated in accordance with established standards.
  • Document system environments, configurations, and changes accurately.
  • Support routine updates and maintenance to keep systems current and stable.

Learning & Collaboration
  • Learn enterprise IT tools, processes, and best practices through hands-on participation.
  • Collaborate with team members across Enterprise Development & Integration.
  • Apply troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills in real system environments.

Other Duties
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support team objectives and personal development.


EDUCATION
  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent and College bound or in-college students.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's or Master's in Information Technology, Computer Science.

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: None
  • Preferred: Must be willing to work part time, 19 hours/week. Analytical and good communication skills needed, willing to learn.

Work Schedule: Onsite presence is required for specific scenarios, may be onsite 10% of the time.
