Senior Blood Donor Technician - Mobile Blood Drives

The Donor Operations team at MD Anderson plays a critical role in supporting lifesaving transfusion services for patients across the institution. Our team collects high-quality blood products through both onsite operations and extensive mobile blood drives across the Greater Houston area. Each donation directly supports cancer patients undergoing complex treatments, making Donor Operations an essential part of MD Anderson's mission to eliminate cancer. As a Senior Blood Donor Technician, you will help lead mobile and onsite collection activities, ensuring all donor interactions, collection procedures, and documentation align with strict safety, quality, and regulatory standards. This role is ideal for an experienced donor technician who excels in customer service, problem-solving, and mentorship. You will support the development and training of staff, model MD Anderson's Go Be Positive customer service principles, ensure an exceptional donor experience, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance donor engagement and operational efficiency.

**The hours for this position require availability from the early morning until later in the evenings as this position is based around mobile blood drives. The ideal candidate will have mobile blood drive experience**

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Performs all Donor Operations Processes according to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)

· Remains knowledgeable of all policies, procedures and protocols.

· Reports any requested donor results, reactions, and adverse events according to SOP.

· Ensure quality control data is accurate, complete, and documented accordingly.

· Adheres to all safety and regulatory guidelines.

Manages all customer service interactions with diplomacy, actively facilitating

resolutions to problems and addressing the needs of clients both internal and external.

· Embraces the roles and responsibilities of the Go Be Positive Customer Service Program.

· Ensures all encounters, verbal, written and silent (body language), with internal and external customers are professional and respectful.

Participates in the development and training of procedures, policies and tools to enhance donor environment functioning while ensuring a positive experience for all involved.

· Utilizes the ten-foot rule greeting everyone in a professional and respectful manner.

· Provides feedback when deficiencies or discrepancies in process performance are observed while supporting the training of others.

· Offers recommendations using the change control tool for process improvement.

· Ensures individual competency requirements are maintained including required licensures and continuing education.

EDUCATION

Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required: 3 years Phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory or blood center.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required: Class A, B or C valid Texas driver's license depending on the type and weight of vehicle to be operated and number of passengers to be carried and good driving record as verified with the Texas Department of Transportation within 90 days upon hire

Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification American Society of Clinical Pathologist Board of Registry (BOR) or by the American Certification Agency (ACA) or by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or DPT-ASCP - Donor Phlebotomy Technician Donor Phlebotomy certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologist Board of Registry (BOR)
