Research Integrity Monitor

The Research Integrity Monitor ensures that research record keeping, and data management practices of Principal Investigators (PIs) and researchers in translational and basic science research laboratories are compliant with institutional policies, procedures, and government regulations by identifying and enhancing compliance opportunities through outreach, continuing education and monitoring activities.

The ideal candidate will have managed or worked in a laboratory conducting scientific research.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Researcher Support

The Research Integrity Monitor (Monitor) will ensure research activities are being conducted in accordance with institutional policies including the Principles for Scientific Research Policy (Policy #RES3535). Specifically, the Monitor will conduct periodic reviews of research record-keeping and research data management practices (Practices) of principal investigators (PIs) and researchers in translational, basic science research laboratories and other areas as identified to (i) assess whether practices consistently protect the integrity of research, awareness of regulatory and institutional requirements, and (ii) identify opportunities for improvements in researcher's practices, institutional guidance and researcher support. Conduct spot checks with the PIs and relative staff. Prepare for the reviews of Practices by reviewing the scope of each individual PI's research which will include determining the funding sources, protocols, publications authored by the PI and PI's research staff. Communicate with PIs.

Educator/Trainer

The Monitor will assist PIs and research staff in identifying research record-keeping and research data management related educational/training opportunities to address areas for improvement and knowledge gaps at individual researcher and institution wide levels. Develop and maintain metrics, and reports to institutional leadership, of completed Practice review visits along with recommendations for improvements of controls and educational needs for research keeping and data management practices. Develop work priorities based on institutional needs.

Institutional Resource

The Monitor will assist in the development and implementation of an institutional researcher support outreach program. Monitor will keep up with research regulatory changes including federal, state and local compliance. Participate in initiatives and strategic plans including programmatic changes based on updated polices, regulations and or site visit recommendations. Serve as a resource to PIs in discussing best practices to ensure their research activities are compliant with applicable polices and regulations. Acts as a contact for specialized support and regulatory compliance analysis to the research faculty and staff that allows for extensive networking within the institution.

Assist with other areas of research integrity program as needed an assigned.

EDUCATION
  • Required: Bachelor's degree.
  • Preferred: Master's degree.


WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: Four years research or research compliance, general/legal regulatory compliance, corporate compliance, privacy compliance, billing and reimbursement or billing compliance, healthcare administration and/or general business as an analyst, auditor or fraud investigator experience. OR
  • Required: Two years required experience, with preferred degree.
  • May substitute required degree with additional years of related experience on a one to one basis.
  • Preferred: Experience working in a research lab or research compliance environment at an academic research center, pharmaceutical company, or government/other funding agency. Three years of related experience, with specific experience in conducting or supporting administratively supporting research projects. Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in a clear, professional and sensitive manner. Ability to work efficiently under stress with time limits imposed. Must be able to interact with a variety of professionals, administrators, and support staff. Proficiency with MS Office software applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
