Postdoctoral Fellow - Nephrology Research

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the department of Nephrology, under the direction of the Farhad Danesh, MD.

The postdoctoral fellow will actively participate in research activities for the principal investigator's ROI funded projects on the role of mitochondria in diabetic disease. The postdoctoral fellow will perform, analyze, interpret, and report data and results to the Principal Investigator and other lab members periodically. The postdoctoral fellow will write and submit scientific papers to peer-reviewed journals and write and submit abstracts and posters to internal and/or external conferences. The postdoctoral fellow will adopt new techniques and develop new skills to enhance research efforts. The postdoctoral fellow will function in a separate and independent manner in the design and initiation of research experiments. The postdoctoral fellow will design, develop, or adapt equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results. The postdoctoral fellow will determine specific goals or objectives to be obtained, evaluated research data, and develops and revises techniques or approaches to work problems.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Research Planning and Execution
1. Designing and developing research protocols and experimental methodologies.
2. Conducting experiments, collecting, and analyzing data using state-of-the-art scientific techniques.
3. Troubleshooting experimental issues and implementing necessary modifications.

Data Analysis and Interpretation
1. Applying statistical methods and data modeling techniques to analyze and interpret experimental results.
2. Summarizing and visualizing data in a clear and concise manner.
3. Collaborating with team members to draw meaningful conclusions and propose further research directions.

Documentation and Reporting
1. Preparing technical reports, research papers, and presentations.
2. Communicating research findings internally and externally through various channels.
3. Participating in conferences and scientific meetings to showcase research contributions.

1. Sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and mentoring junior team members.
2. Contributing to the development and improvement of research processes and methodologies.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Recently (within three years) completed education (doctorate) or completed previous postdoctoral experience or graduate medical education.

Research Experience:
• Familiarity with a range of molecular biology techniques and instruments.
• Experience in applying statistical methods and data analysis tools.

Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in standard molecular biology techniques, cell culture, and microscopy.
• Familiarity with single cell techniques, methodology and data analysis is highly desirable.
• A background in mitochondrial biology is also desirable.

Communication and Collaboration:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
• Strong presentation skills and the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.

Problem-Solving and Analytical Thinking:
• Demonstrated ability to think critically and solve scientific problems.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to adapt to new challenges and changing research priorities.

POSITION INFORMATION
MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000. depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience.
