Medical Laboratory Scientist - Special Chemistry - Evenings

The Special Chemistry Laboratory at MD Anderson Cancer Center plays a vital role in delivering highly specialized diagnostic testing that supports precision oncology, complex patient management, and advanced clinical decision-making. The team is responsible for high-complexity assays that require technical expertise, strict quality oversight, and close collaboration to ensure accurate and timely results for patients with critical care needs.

As a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Special Chemistry, you will perform and report complex laboratory testing while ensuring compliance with all institutional policies, regulatory standards, and safety requirements. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot instrumentation and testing processes to maintain consistent, high-quality results. You will be responsible for verifying quality control data, maintaining equipment, managing inventory, and accurately analyzing and reporting patient results in support of optimal patient care.

In this role, you will contribute to laboratory productivity and operational excellence by effectively prioritizing workload, working independently, and collaborating with peers and supervisors to meet testing demands. Clear communication and teamwork are essential, as you will work closely with others to ensure workflows remain efficient and results are delivered accurately and on time in a fast-paced, high-complexity laboratory environment.

You will also play an active role in quality enhancement and staff development by participating in training and mentoring of students and employees, supporting process improvement initiatives, and assisting with the validation and implementation of new methodologies and testing platforms. Adherence to CAP and CLIA guidelines, along with consistent review and application of standard operating procedures, is central to maintaining the laboratory's commitment to excellence and regulatory readiness.

The hours are 2pm-10:30pm. The ideal candidate will be a NAACLS grad or have a bachelors degree in a science related field.

Required:
• Associate's Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology OR
• Bachelor's Degree in a related science field or Molecular Genetic Technology OR
• Successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Clinical Laboratory Science/Molecular Genetic Technology accredited program

Required Experience:
• 2 years of clinical laboratory experience with an Associate's Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology
• 1 year of clinical laboratory experience with a Bachelor's Degree in a related science field
No experience required with completion of a NAACLS-accredited Clinical Laboratory Science/Molecular Genetic Technology accredited program

Preferred:
• ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist Technologist/Scientist/Specialist certification OR
• CHS - Certified Histocompatibility Specialist, American College of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (ACHI) OR
• CHT - Certified Histocompatibility Technologist, American College of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (ACHI) OR
• MDT - Molecular Diagnostics Tech, American Medical
