- Requisition #: 178638
- Department: Hematopathology Ops
- Location: Houston, TX
- Posted Date: 1/30/2026
The Clinical Flow Cytometry Laboratory at MD Anderson Cancer Center plays a critical role in the diagnosis, classification, and monitoring of hematologic malignancies and other complex disease states. The laboratory supports high-complexity testing using advanced flow cytometry methodologies, providing timely, accurate, and clinically meaningful results that directly inform patient care and treatment decisions.
As a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Clinical Flow Cytometry, you will perform laboratory testing specific to the section, including specimen processing, staining, acquisition, and analysis. You will apply established protocols and quality standards to ensure testing accuracy while maintaining competency across laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
In this role, you will routinely analyze and sign off on basic flow cytometry panels such as ratios, lymphocyte subsets, and CD34 studies. You will demonstrate the ability to recognize common technical and analytical issues-such as missing antibodies, insufficient event acquisition, or other basic errors-and take appropriate corrective action to ensure reliable results. Attention to detail and analytical judgment are essential, as flow cytometry data directly impacts clinical decision-making.
You will be responsible for completing, verifying, and reporting test results in a timely manner while maintaining strict adherence to safety guidelines, quality standards, and regulatory mandates. This includes following inventory control processes to ensure the effective use of reagents and supplies and maintaining accountability for all testing performed.
Productivity and dependability are key components of this role. You will prioritize and organize your workload to meet daily testing demands, work independently while utilizing available resources efficiently, and adhere to attendance and scheduling expectations. You will actively participate in laboratory functions and contribute to process improvement initiatives that enhance workflow, quality, and operational efficiency.
Strong computer skills are required, as you will acquire specimen data into laboratory information systems, analyze and evaluate patient results, and ensure proper documentation and storage of patient information for future access and compliance purposes.
MD Anderson offers a comprehensive total rewards package, including paid medical benefits, generous paid time off, retirement plans, and additional benefits, supporting long-term career growth and stability within one of the world's leading cancer centers.
