Donor Operations Supervisor

The Donor Operations department at MD Anderson Cancer Center plays a critical role in supporting lifesaving transfusion services by ensuring a safe, reliable, and high-quality blood supply for patients. Through mobile, fixed, and specialty collection sites, the department coordinates donor recruitment, screening, collection, and post-phlebotomy care while maintaining strict regulatory and quality standards.

As a Donor Operations Supervisor, you will oversee daily collection activities across multiple sites, ensuring efficient operations, appropriate staffing, and readiness of equipment, supplies, and vehicles used in blood donor recruitment and collection. You will be responsible for meeting blood and blood component collection goals while maintaining a strong focus on donor safety, regulatory compliance, and customer service excellence.

In this leadership role, you will collaborate closely with the Quality Unit to ensure continuous regulatory preparedness and compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) standards and accreditation requirements, including FDA, AABB, CAP, and CLIA guidelines. You will participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures, document and investigate deviations, and contribute to corrective and preventive action planning. Your involvement in quality and process improvement initiatives will directly support operational efficiency and patient safety.

You will also provide direct supervision and development of donor operations staff, including training, orientation, competency assessments, scheduling, and performance evaluations. By guiding staff in organizing and prioritizing daily activities, you will help maximize collection outcomes, donor retention, and service quality. Serving as both an operational and technical resource, you will support internal teams and external partners with expertise and professionalism.

**The hours for this position are Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm with usually 1 weekend on-call rotation per month. The ideal candidate will have prior lead donor experience.**

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Donor Collections
• Responsible for the daily collection activities at mobile, fixed, and other collection sites including but not limited to operations and administration, equipment, supplies and vehicles used in the recruitment, screening, phlebotomy, and post-phlebotomy of blood donors.

• Ensure blood and blood component collection goals are met.

• Take lead role in completion of assigned projects.

Quality Assurance/Quality Control

• Work with the Quality Unit to always ensure regulatory preparedness.

• Participate in the development, coordination and implementation of policies and procedures.

• Perform procedures and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practice and accreditation agency standards, (FDA, AABB, CAP and CLIA).

• Document deviations and assist in the investigation of the cause and any required corrective actions.

• Participate in the development and implementation of quality/ process improvement projects.

Human Resources/Training/Education

• Perform supervision duties including but not limited to training, orientation, scheduling, competency assessments and performance evaluations.

• Supervise personnel in organizing and prioritizing activities to maximize collections, donor retention, and customer service.

• Serve as an operational and technical resource for internal and external customers.

Education

Required:
• Bachelor's Degree in a related science field

Work Experience

Required:
• 4 years in a high volume clinical laboratory or blood bank, to include two years of lead/supervisory experience

• May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

• Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.

Licenses and Certifications

Preferred:
• MT - Medical Technologist: Certified Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists Board of Registry.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
