Advanced Practice Provider - Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) - Northwest Surgery
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) serves as a key clinical provider within the Ambulatory Treatment Center - Northwest Surgery, delivering direct diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients across the treatment continuum. The APP performs comprehensive assessments, triages acute needs in the infusion environment, coordinates multidisciplinary care, and contributes to clinical quality and patient outcomes. As part of its mission, MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention, and the APP plays an essential role in supporting this mission through high quality, patient centered care.
The ideal candidate brings at least one year of Medical Oncology experience and demonstrates strong capability in managing complex oncology care. Preferred experience includes prior employment at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Open to new graduates with registered nurse experience in an Ambulatory Treatment Center or Chemotherapy Infusion environment. The APP will work in the Northwest Surgery Center but must be open to traveling to The Woodlands and West Houston for clinical coverage, with training conducted at the Texas Medical Center.
Hours of operation: 7:30am-8:30pm. Will work on a rotating shift.
Salary Range:
Minimum salary: 117,500 - Midpoint: 146,500 - Maximum: 176,500

Responsibilities
Patient Assessment & Clinical Care
• Conduct comprehensive assessments based on age, diagnosis, and psychological status
• Perform and document histories and physicals using the Electronic Health Record
• Order, review, and interpret diagnostic studies and therapeutic procedures
• Prescribe medications within institutional scope and guidelines
• Provide direct care to patients in the Ambulatory Treatment Center and clinical settings
• Triage patients with symptoms, concerns, or abnormal lab results during infusion visits
• Prep for and follow up on clinical visits
• Perform credentialed procedures as needed
Care Coordination & Collaboration
• Communicate directly with referring physicians and medical staff
• Partner with Ambulatory Treatment Center and clinical nursing teams to support patient care
• Coordinate care with multidisciplinary treatment plan providers
• Build strong collaborative relationships throughout the organization
• Work collaboratively with Advanced Practice Provider colleagues to ensure continuous coverage
Autonomous Clinical Practice
• Perform independently in an Advanced Practice Provider clinic
• Apply evidence-based care while functioning within professional scope
• Maintain proficiency in Electronic Health Record documentation standards
Quality, Safety & Process Improvement
• Participate in development, modification, and interpretation of oncology guidelines, policies, and procedures
• Support quality assurance activities and safety initiatives across Ambulatory Treatment Center locations
• Contribute to process improvement projects to enhance care delivery
Research & Professional Development
• Maintain working knowledge of oncology clinical trials
• Participate in clinical research activities when appropriate
• Attend continuing education, conferences, and staff development programs
• Participate in required institutional and center trainings and meetings

EDUCATION
- Required: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) for licensure as APRN or PA.

- One year of Medical Oncology experience.
