Research Assistant I - Radiation Oncology - Research

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. The primary purpose of the Research Assistant I position is to provide responsible technical assistance in carrying out various research projects and assistance in maintaining efficient functioning of the laboratory. Requires scientific and technical background, independent decision-making, judgment and organizational skills and innovative participation.

KEY FUNCTIONS

1. Conducts Research Experiments and Projects
For individuals with intrinsic curiosity and interest in working in research lab and who perform and assist in experiments related to both animal studies and in vitro applications of molecular biology and protein biochemistry of cells and tissue samples. Experimental procedures include but not limited to: mouse husbandry (breeding, weaning, genotyping by PCR); animal irradiation; animal behavior studies; tissue collection; western Blot; immunohistochemistry.

2. Operates Laboratory Apparatus and Equipment Learns equipment and relevant software needed to carry out experiments.

3. Laboratory Inventory management
Provide routine maintenance of laboratory equipment when/if required and implement safety procedures.

4.Computer literacy
Be able to learn and use software related to data acquisition, analysis and presentation

5. Other duties as assigned

Education
Required: Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.

Preferred: Biomedical Science Focus.

Experience
Required: No experience.

Preferred: Experience working with animal experiments, molecular biology and neuroscience technique
