Ideal candidate will have a proven project management background as well as experience with managing a team of individuals on a large portfolio of projects - clinical healthcare experience is a plus. Additionally, must be an excellent communicator, someone who understands how to frame a message in a clear, concise, and compelling way.
SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Principal Project Manager position is to lead and direct project management staff in the implementation of capital and Facilities improvement projects with a total project cost less than $10 million. The individual will provide project management expertise and leadership in the planning, organizing and implementing of facilities projects through the direct supervision and management of project management staff. This position manages and monitors the day-to-day staff performance, their project progress, the development of project products using standardized processes and provides guidance to assure compliance and adherence to current institutional and industry standards. Principal project manager is also responsible for hiring employees, performing employee evaluations and where applicable, written coaching/counseling and employee notices.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES Personnel Management Supervise assigned personnel in the production of the business unit's products and services. Makes hiring recommendations for staff positions. Conducts performance evaluations and handles personnel issues. Establishes goals, determines resource requirements and allocates available resources to meet those goals. Creates and implements changes as needed to meet departmental, divisional or institutional goals in conjunction with the director of capital projects.
Support the development and implementation of project management staff training and mentoring that guides the staff in performing their job through their use of standardized products and processes.
Project Management Guide and monitor the assigned project management staff to ensure they are adhering to the established operating procedures. Ensure that projects are completed on schedule, within budget and in accordance with applicable quality standards.
Effectively manage the resources and staff in a manner that yields productive actions through managing workloads, conflicts, providing guidance to overcome barriers and validating efforts.
Contractual Documentation/Recordkeeping Plans, defines, organizes, coordinates and directs contractual relationships for the assigned projects. Defines and implements contractual and financial strategies that optimize the resources of the Institution. Establishes & directs contracting strategies and negotiations for the Institution through subordinate managers, professionals and other staff. Coordinate the approval procedures with the Facilities Executive Steering Committee and associated State Agencies. Enforces contract terms and conditions with the vendors.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelors degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science or related field. Seven years experience in project/construction management related activities, including project management, budgeting and documentation. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience. Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
