The primary purpose of the Medical Dosimetrist position is to generate an optimized treatment plan by means of
computer and/or manual computations that will deliver a prescribed, uniform radiation dose to a defined tumor
volume while sparing critical and normal structures.. This is done by following the radiation prescription and
applying radiation physics principles.
ENTRY LEVEL:
1. Perform external beam treatment planning and dose calculations for radiation therapy patients' care.
(Includes: Speed, accuracy, productivity, preparation and follow-up)
2. Perform quality assurance activities including but not limited to daily checks, initial plan/chart
review, weekly chart checks, and chart close-outs. (Includes accuracy, productivity and
completeness.)
3. Learn and apply the policies and procedures specific to medical dosimetry responsibilities at M.D.
Anderson Cancer Center. (Includes, basic competencies, skill specific competencies, and
institutional and department policies.)
4. Other duties as assigned.
CORE LEVEL:

ADVANCED LEVEL:

4. Participates in quality improvement initiatives; initiates team efforts by assisting other clinical
service areas

EXPERT LEVEL:

2. Perform quality assurance activities including but not limited to daily checks, initial plan/chart

3. Promotes/supports self-development and teamwork in serving as a resource and mentor in all
clinical areas.
4. Demonstrates knowledge/leadership by providing technical expertise in joint problem solving and
improving medical dosimetry procedures.
5. All key functions noted in the previous levels of the position description and other duties as
assigned.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor's degree. Graduate of a Medical Dosimetry JRCERT accredited program of at least 12 months. May substitute required education with four years of current and continuous medical dosimetry experience.
Certification/Licensure
Required: Certification as a Medical Dosimetrist by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) within four years of job entry.
