Education
Required: High school diploma/equivalent.
Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.
Experience
One year of medical assistant experience. With preferred degree, no experience is required.

- Answering patient's questions regarding procedures
- Referring services to patients

Job Specific Competencies:
Clinical Patient Care/Coordination Skills
- Demonstrates proficiency in taking and validating patient vital signs, entering them accurately into the electronic health record (EHR).
- Collects relevant patient information for specific procedures and inputs it into the EHR.
- Identifies patient needs, verifies requirements with providers, and enters lab orders.
- Recognizes variances in lab values, notifying the appropriate staff.
- Takes initiative with responsibilities like screening calls, documenting pre/post patient information, and removing IV lines according to protocol.
- Assists with room turnover, patient transfers, and procedure room/equipment cleaning.
- Maintains patient safety by following Institutional policies and Joint Commission regulations.
- Adheres to Infection Control practices as per Institutional policy.
Technical Skills
- Uses systems like One Connect and Ticket to Ride to track patient steps.
- Applies and enters appropriate CPT codes, modifiers, and uses the E&M calculator accurately.
- Performs daily glucometer and iStat quality control as an opening duty.
- Demonstrates sterile technique for procedure setup with minimal supervision.
- Follows specimen handling protocol and Universal Protocol process.
- Rotates in departmental Zip Rounding and stocks supplies, reporting expired items.
- Reports equipment errors or malfunctions promptly to Endoscopy Leadership.
Communication Skills
- Confirms scheduled appointments, communicating professionally per telephone etiquette.
- Clearly reports variances in lab results, needs, and patient concerns.
- Maintains professionalism and fosters a positive team environment.
- Uses the paging system appropriately.
