SUMMARY
The primary function of the Physician Assistant is to assist supervising physicians in providing direct diagnostic and therapeutic patient care. Demonstrate care that is effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable for the treatment of health problems and the promotion of wellness. Counsel and educate patients and their families about disease and illness. This PA position will function primarily in the outpatient clinic setting and will also assist in the OR. The primary work location is the TMC Campus, but should be open to traveling to our Houston Area Locations (HALS).
The ideal candidate will be a Licensed Physician Assistant with prior PA experience in Surgery or Urology.
KEY FUNCTIONS
1. Obtains medical history and performs physical exam on patients. Interprets diagnostic tests and radiographic results and come up with a management plan for patients in concert with faculty physicians. Takes responsibility for patient assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient needs as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team. Documents in chart for all patients seen.
2. Reviews/orders diagnostic tests and radiographic results. Formulates and manages patient treatment plans and outcomes.
3. Performs as first or second assist on operative cases using fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
4. Performs procedures, prescribes treatment, and signs prescriptions in accordance with institution and state requirements. Screens physician calls to educate patient/family on care and resources.
5. Collaborates in research projects, formulates protocols, and applies research to practice.
6. Other duties as assigned.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Required:
• PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.
• Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) OR Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
MAY BE REQUIRED:
• Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.
