Summary

Reporting to the Program Manager, Creative Communications, the Senior Medical Illustrator conceptualizes, develops and executes a variety of professional medical illustrations and other life science educational and interactive projects, ensuring MD Anderson's brand and visual identity are aligned with these projects.

Key Functions

Using independent planning and problem-solving skills, the senior medical illustrator, reporting to the program director, Creative Communications, is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and executing high-quality medical illustrations, motion graphics, infographics, and interactive and multimedia visual solutions to promote MD Anderson programs. The focus of this position is support for Institutional Advancement and clinical, research, and educational areas throughout the institution. The job requires excellent interpersonal skills and high levels of productivity, ensuring that multiple jobs on tight deadlines are handled efficiently and on time. Must possess the ability to work independently but also to take creative direction and collaborate as part of a team.

Medical and scientific illustrations:

· Consults with clients about visualization, preparation, and production of 2D medical and scientific illustration projects.

· Produces creative and complex medical, anatomical, surgical and technical illustration assignments for faculty and staff.

· Works with faculty to develop figures and visuals to accompany papers in peer-reviewed journals.

3D Animation, modeling, and interactive multimedia:

· Consults with clients across the institution to create and to produce creative digital modeling and animation using 3D modeling software, DICOM viewing software, and patient radiological data.

· Also consults with clients to create and to produce interactive multimedia projects involving established media (illustration and animation), as well as emerging media and technologies.

· Advises clients on using the medium that is most effective at communicating medical and scientific concepts to their audience.

· Responsible for maintenance of digital anatomical model library.

Website and brand support:

· Advances MD Anderson's Strategy by working with colleagues across the institution to produce medical and scientific illustrations supporting MD Anderson's website, publications, and press releases.

· Serves as a knowledgeable steward of MD Anderson's visual and editorial brand.

Other duties as assigned.

Education

Required: Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Communication, Medical Illustration, or a related degree.

Preferred: Master's degree

Experience

Required: Five years medical illustration, experience and submission of a professional portfolio of post-graduation medical illustration work. With preferred degree, three years of required experience and submission of a portfolio of postgraduate medical illustration work.
