Clinical Nurse, Outpatient - Gastrointestinal Center

MD Anderson's Gastrointestinal Cancer Center brings together leading specialists in cancers of the digestive system, including gastroenterologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and surgeons. Physicians focus on specific cancer types and subtypes, working in multidisciplinary teams to create personalized, coordinated treatment plans for each patient.

The ideal candidate is a licensed RN with a minimum of two years of nursing experience, preferably in an outpatient ambulatory clinic setting. Background in Med/Surg, ICU/ER, GI, Colorectal, or Endoscopy is preferred; oncology is a plus.

Shift: Monday - Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm (30-minute lunch)

Salary Range
• Annual: $68,000 minimum - $105,200 midpoint - $142,500 maximum
• Hourly breakdown: minimum $32.69 - midpoint $50.58 - maximum $68.51

Key Responsibilities

Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area.
Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and other services, using clinical skills and visual, aural and analytical abilities.
Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
Integrates knowledge of age-specific care needs, principles of oncology practice, institutional goals and standards and current professional practice standards in providing care for patients.
Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies.
Participates in data collection for current studies.
Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies.
Assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services.
Acts as a patient and family advocate to uphold patient rights.
Organizes and prioritizes work of patient care team; trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.

EDUCATION
Required: Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification if working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761).
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi - Child & Adolescent Center (113200).
Preferred: OCN - Oncology Nurse Certification, Certification in specialty practice.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: None.
Preferred: Two years of nursing experience, preferably in an outpatient setting. Background in Med/Surg, ICU/ER, GI, Colorectal, or Endoscopy. Oncology experience is a plus.

All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
