Research Assistant I - McAllister Laboratory (Mouse)

SUMMARY

The Research Assistant I to help achieve our goal. This position impacts cancer research projects by developing/maintaining programs and applications tailored to meet research objectives and makes them available to the wider cancer research community. This position impacts all aspects of running the McAllister Clinical and Laboratory Operations

KEY FUNCTIONS
  • Performs mouse tail clipping and DNA extraction for genotyping analysis.
  • Conducts PCR studies and gel electrophoresis.
  • Maintain mouse colonies and set up breeding pairs ensuring proper husbandry.
  • Prepares stock solutions for general lab use.
  • Regularly calibrate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments.
  • Performs Immunohistochemistry, Immunofluorescence and Western blot assays and quantification.
  • Process human samples and ensure proper storage of samples.
  • Maintain laboratory apparatus and equipment including -20oC freezer defrost etc.
  • Ensures that all laboratory operations and safety protocols are in compliance and ready for inspection.
  • Communicates and collaborates with staff, faculty, and investigators on research projects inside and outside of MDACC. Discusses the research findings and participates in the presentation of research results via verbal presentations, abstracts, publications, and posters.
  • Other duties as assigned


EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.

EXPERIENCE

Required: No experience.

Preferred: Mouse experience.
