Postdoctoral Fellow - Thoracic H&N Med Onc - Gibbons Lab
- Requisition #: 600657-202302131136

The Gibbons lab in the Department of Thoracic/Head and Neck Medical Oncology, MD Anderson Cancer Center, seeks to fill multiple postdoctoral research positions. Our research focuses on the mechanisms by which lung cancer evades immune system surveillance and becomes invasive/metastatic. We investigate several complementary areas, including:
1) the role of the tumor cells in reprogramming the tumor immune microenvironment,
2) tumor cell-extracellular matrix interactions, and
3) tumor intrinsic changes that facilitate tumor invasion and distant metastasis.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Postdoctoral fellows will benefit from training in cancer biology, cancer immunology, the development and characterization of genetic models of lung cancer, the use of 2- or 3-dimensional cell culture systems, and the characterization of the extracellular and tumor immune microenvironment. Fellows will also interact with bioinformatics and pathology collaborators to facilitate the translation of their discoveries into human samples and datasets. Fellows will have educational and mentoring opportunities (e.g., pilot grant funding, grant writing, mentoring experience with summer students and rotating graduate students), extensive opportunities to gain presentation skills at individual and joint lab meetings, departmental meetings, programmatic research groups (e.g., NCI-funded SPORE) and institutional symposia. Fellows will also have the opportunity to present their work at annual conferences such as the Keystone, AACR, and Cold Spring Harbor Lab meetings.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Individuals who have completed a Ph.D. and have training relevant to the position are eligible. Qualified applications will demonstrate the potential for research, as evidenced by their peer-reviewed publications and funding. A background in cancer biology and expertise in the design and execution of cell culture and in vivo experiments that incorporate a variety of molecular/cellular techniques are desirable.
POSITION INFORMATION
MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000. depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center offers excellent benefits, including medical, dental, paid time off, retirement, tuition benefits, educational opportunities, and individual and team recognition12/31/2024
