Emergency Management & Business Continuity Planner

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Emergency Management and Business Continuity Planner position is to provide technical expertise to resolve issues involving personnel, visitors, patients and other institutional staff and contractors. In addition, this position prepares employees and the institution on how to respond to emergencies and how to continue business after an incident. The employee performs independent program coordination for Emergency Management and Business Continuity. Responsible for coordination, development, implementation and testing of emergency and business continuity plans at MD Anderson. Performs and completes special projects as assigned or as needed to address institutional safety issues. This employee must maintain awareness with applicable laws, regulations and national guidelines relevant to section functions and responsibilities. Assists in drafting comments on proposed state and federal regulations as needed.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Business Continuity Program Management

Develop, review, and maintain policies, procedures, and plans for MD Anderson's Business Continuity (BC) program, ensuring compliance with guidelines and regulations. This involves conducting proactive risk and hazard vulnerability assessments and aligning with federal, state, and industry standards specific to departmental functions and processes.
Identify additional measures and actions needed to enhance the BC program, addressing continuity of operations needs and requirements.
Additionally, actively participate in all Business Continuity functions to support our section, department, and institution. This includes designing and developing exercises to ensure preparedness and resilience.
Ensure organizational resilience during unforeseen disruptions;
Design and coordinate BC Plans testing and exercises.
Conduct risk assessments and business impact analysis (BIA) to identify potential vulnerabilities and BC impacts.
Emergency Management Program Support

Support the EM Program; Member of the Ride Out Team; support the management of the Ride Out Process;
Participates in EM functions to support the section, the department and the institution, to include design and development of BC exercises.
Integrated Technology Solutions

Incorporate technological advancements into BCPs to enhance response capabilities and continuity measures.
Conduct BIAs and ensure plans are developed using available technology.

Required: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Management Engineering, Education, Organizational Development, Emergency Planning, Business Continuity or related field. Two years of emergency management or business continuity experience.
