Child Life Assistant - Pediatrics Support Programs

The ideal candidate will have an Associate's Degree with at least one year of experience working with children, adolescents or young adults in a health care setting or child care setting.

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MD Anderson) and Texas Children's Hospital announced a new collaboration on February 19, 2025.   The collaborative operations and patient care are anticipated to launch in early 2026. This advertised position is within the scope of the new collaboration and will not continue at MD Anderson beyond 12/31/25. Opportunity to continue in this role at Texas Children's Hospital may be offered by Texas Children's Hospital. Candidates will have the option to discuss the impact of the collaboration with Human Resources professionals.

Summary

Function- Assists in the provision of Child Life Services to all pediatric patients and guests.

Essential Job Functions- Assists with delivery of diversion, recreation and education materials to patients and families. Provides additional staff coverage at special events and activities. Provides individual bedside activities and outreach to patients on the inpatient and outpatient units. Maintains accurate attendance records. Assists with transportation of patients to and from program activities and/or other special events. Assists the Child Life Specialist in orienting and supporting pediatric volunteers. Delivers equipment and devices to patient rooms.

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Thirty hours of course work in child development, nursing, social work, family studies, psychology or related field.
Preferred : Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Level.

Experience

Required: One year of experience working with children, adolescents or young adults in a health care setting or child care setting. May substitute experience for required education on a one to one basis.
Preferred: One year of child life development experience.
