Sr Research Assistant Hematopoietic Biology & Malignancy Dr. Sachet Shukla's Lab

The primary purpose of the Senior Research Assistant position is to provide supervision, special training to technical personnel and/or highly technical work in medical and related research projects.

The ideal candidate will have experience with protein/DNA/RNA extraction, purification, and isolation techniques.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Cell Culture, Macromolecules, Hazardous & Patient Tissues: Maintain stock cancer cell lines for cell culture, to include growing, expanding, and freezing utilizing sterile techniques. Ability to isolate and assay macromolecules such as DNA, RNA, and proteins. Successful completion of these assays requires knowledge of molecular biology techniques. Ability for perform standard biochemistry techniques (e.g. immunoprecipitation, protein electrophoresis, western blot). Some procedures will require the use of hazardous material. Must maintain records of hazardous chemicals and reagents as required. Handle patient tissues, with familiarity of safety procedures. Other Lab Management Responsibilities: Responsible for partial lab management duties such as stocking supplies, maintaining equipment, and ensuring lab productivity and workflow.

Record Keeping & Professional Literature: The ideal candidate will be well organized, maintain detailed and well-organized lab notebooks and digital databases. Knowledge of word and excel processing programs. Record, maintain and develop if needed a comprehensive central repository for reagents, antibodies, plasmids, oligos, cell lines, tissue samples, etc. Uses laboratory knowledge and expertise to identify and resolve research laboratory operational issues and interacts with others to resolve problems. Reads and discusses selected literature with supervisor and other laboratory personnel.

Assisting & Teaching Others: Assist in ordering lab supplies and monitors workflow as it pertains to the need for supplies, reagents, equipment maintenance and stock solutions. Assist in organizing sample distribution: Receiving and shipping samples for sequencing and immunopeptidomes. Helps laboratory manager teach techniques to graduate students or other research personnel.

EDUCATION:Required: Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Preferred: Master's Level Degree in immunology, cancer biology, biotechnology or related scientific discipline.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Three years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, one year of required experience.

Preferred: Experience with protein/DNA/RNA extraction, purification, and isolation techniques.
