The Sr. Health Education Specialist will serve as the primary liaison between the research team and the enrolled healthcare centers for a program called Taking Texas Tobacco Free, a comprehensive, evidence-based tobacco-free workplace program. The Sr. Health Education Specialist will work with the healthcare organizations we partner with to provide continued support and technical assistance to their staff and to the populations they serve in their smoking quit attempts. The components involved in our program include providing ongoing educational opportunities and specialized tobacco cessation trainings for staff, guidance on developing and implementing policies, various tobacco-cessation related resources for distribution at facilities, and aiding organizations in their community outreach efforts.
Our team as a whole is focused on better understanding how the social and environmental context affects people's cancer-related risk behaviors, with a focus on groups of people that experience poor health outcomes and an emphasis on tobacco dependence. Our Lab works in partnership with community groups and organizations both locally and across the state.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
Build and Maintain Relationships
* Expand infrastructure for outreach to various healthcare centers through developing and maintaining community partnerships;
* Collaborate with academic and community partners to develop, implement, and assess education and outreach efforts linked to CPRIT research priorities;
* Maintain positive and communicative relationships with program champions at partner centers; and
* Promote collaboration and collegiality that demonstrates respect and professionalism to our partners at all times.
Program Development/Delivery
* Must be willing to travel to partner centers within Houston and across Texas;
* Recruitment of partner programs through community outreach efforts (virtual and in-person);
* Development of tools, trainings, and education materials;
* Delivery of training and education;
* Prepare presentations, reports, and materials;
* Provide feedback to partners on policy and procedure development;
* Oversee and guide data collection at partner centers;
* Provide technical assistance to partner centers during implementation;
* Contribute to meeting agendas and report out on center progression during weekly team meetings;
* Responding to requests in a timely manner while proactively communicating expectations for procedures or project deliverables to team and community partners;
* Record project details in team management spreadsheets/software;
* Design (with graphics team) health communication information for partners (signage, posters, brochures) and to demonstrate reach and impact of program (maps, infographics); and
* Disseminate program materials statewide via email, snail mail, and in-person community outreach.

EDUCUATION:
Required: Master's degree in Health Education, Public Health, or Community Health Education or other related degrees/disciplines.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Four years experience in health education. Experience in program planning and supervision.
Preferred: R elevant experience as a health educator. C ommunity-based education; motivational interviewing; training in a medical setting.
Preferred Certification: Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
OTHER:
Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
