The ideal candidate will have experience constructing tissue microarrays (TMAs) and doing immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Research Histology Specimen Preparation
1. Prepares research histology specimens using standard and specialized procedures utilizing superior skills and knowledge. Sorts and identifies specimens, labels slides, cuts, stains and coverslips specimens, prepares solutions and maintains laboratory equipment.
2. Assists with the gross examination of surgical and biopsy specimens. Maintains grossing/sample collection work area and related supplies.
Tumor Characterization Perform procedures including special staining, IHC, in situ hybridization, and various specialized procedures (macrodissection, taking punches from multi-institutional FFPE blocks, construction of treatment assigned tissue microarray (TMAs).
Specimen Verifiication/Identification Documentation
1. Verification of specimen identification in relation to the case report form/requisition form submitted with each specimen,
2. Documentation of the specimens, charges associated with task completed, and any additional documentation and annotation related to the processes associated with each specimen.
3. Responsible for other specialized processes as required by projects and protocols.
4. Maintain records on work in progress, daily workload recording and QA records.
Database Management Data entering and database operation.
High school diploma or equivalent. With required education, five years of Histology Technician experience. With Associate's degree, three years experience in histopathology within the last ten years under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, or eligible) or an appropriately certified medical scientist. With successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Histotechnician program, one year of required experience. Histology Technician (HT) certification with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
