Senior Applications Systems Analyst (Red Hat)

The primary purpose of the Senior Applications Systems Analyst position is to manage and coordinate all operational user service of the supported systems. Responsible for the support model related to the systems. Provide customer-focused, proactive systems management processes and policies to ensure maximum server health and availability. This position is classified as essential. The employee must be available for Hurricane Ride Team assignment and or Hurricane Recovery Team assignment per institutional policies. The position requires carrying a pager at all times and working varied hours as needed, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays to complete assigned tasks and project deliverables on schedule.

Support Production Applications
• Perform on-call duties in rotation with other team members.
• Provide assistance to other team members in their on-call rotation.
• Follow-up on any problems encountered during the rotation, document resolution details, and update support documentation as needed.
• Notify management, customers, and business partners of significant problems or system outages.

Technology Expertise
• Lead and/or participate in the identification and documentation of business, functional, and technical problems.
• Analyze, document and decompose problems into discreet requirements.
• Research, evaluate and provide input to potential solutions taking into consideration project constraints, organizational architecture standards, customer business processes and emerging technologies, where applicable.
• Lead and/or participate in the development of work tasks, estimates, schedules, materials and plans to meet business needs.
• Prioritize, monitor, and report progress for assigned tasks and resources.
• Identify and perform processes to produce high quality and reliable solutions.
• Lead and contribute to regular work sessions with staff and customers to discuss priorities and resource allocations to meet defined goals.
• Lead and/or participate in the design of solutions to meet business needs.
• Translate functional requirements into high-level technical designs and/or business processes in terms of the technical infrastructure; file and database structures; application integration; security; backup and recovery, and monitoring functions; user interfaces; and reports.
• Write detailed technical specifications and/or test plans.
• Create accurate programs, documentation, utilities and test scripts to meet business requirements and team standards.
• Install, configure and document applications, procedures and scripts.
• Perform testing and document results.

Bachelor's degree.

Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT)
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
CompTIA A+

Experience Required:
Five years' experience in domain, analysis, design, project management, programming. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one-to-one basis.

Preferred Experience:
• Experience with, RHEL Linux, Ubuntu Linux, and or VMware ESX.
• Working knowledge of authentication and access control using LDAP and Active Directory.
ITIL knowledge and /or certification desired.
• Working knowledge of network services such as reverse proxy, SSL, Load Balancing, Domain Name Services highly desirable.
• Familiarity with analyzing system logs and identifying potential issues with computer systems. Experience with log management solutions (e.g. Splunk).
• Knowledge of specific hardware and software in use at The University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center.
• Current or previous MD Anderson experience.
