Summary
The primary purpose of the Research Investigator is to independently perform animal studies, including but not limited to: drug and/or cell injections and anatomical measurements. Additionally, they will be expected to provide technical assistance in one of the following areas: 1) animal genotyping, breeding, and colony management, 2) tissue processing and immunohistochemistry, or 3) molecular biology, cell culture, and immunoblot analysis. Responsibilities will also include assisting with the organization of reagents and samples, as well as supporting general laboratory duties such as ordering lab reagents, consumables, and receiving shipments. The position requires independent decision-making, sound judgment, and high organizational skills. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining safety standards in the laboratory and for training other personnel in animal techniques. The role requires excellent organizational skills, independent judgment, and a strong desire and willingness to learn new skills and techniques. This is ideally a long-term position.
Job Specific Competencies
Education Required - Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.
Experience Required - Five years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, three years of required experience.
Experience Preferred - Experience in animal handling techniques, including mouse screening and husbandry, is a strong preference for this position. Research experience would be a valuable asset, and a solid understanding of immunology would be a plus.

Job Specific Competencies
- Support the Principal Investigator (PI): Aid and support the PI in all research and laboratory efforts.
- Independently Perform Animal Experiments: Conduct animal experiments in consultation with the PI, including breeding, weaning, genotyping, bleeding, tissue harvesting, injections, and downstream processing and analysis.
- Animal Maintenance: Perform animal maintenance tasks, adhering to safety protocols and standards, and maintain accurate records of animal inventory.
- Training Laboratory Members: Train new laboratory members in animal techniques.
- Standard Molecular Techniques: Perform standard molecular techniques and tissue culture procedures.
- Proactive Learning: Demonstrate a willingness to proactively learn new techniques and advancements in science.
- Ordering Reagents and Supplies: Manage orders for reagents, supplies, and consumables.
- Other Duties as Required: Assist with other duties as necessary for the smooth operation of the lab.
