Research Data Specialist

SUMMARY
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
The primary purpose of this position is to provide exceptional clinical data abstraction and data management for the Lymphoma Observational & Translational Research (LOTR) program within the Department of Lymphoma and Myeloma. The incumbent is detail-oriented, passionate about clean and quality data, and works successfully with limited oversight while providing detailed lymphoma clinical data abstraction for standard of care research initiatives and is knowledgeable about proper human subject research guidelines.
Job Specific Competencies:
Research Data Abstraction (100%)
· Gain a very detailed understanding of lymphoma disease, treatments, biomarkers, and clinical prognostics.
· Accurately interpret and record disease-specific and outcomes data from clinician notes, patient scans, laboratory values, pathology reports, and other clinical documentation from the EMR into study databases.
· Manage data queries for incomplete or incorrect data entries.
· Effectively work with clinicians for data reviews and sign off.
· Record outcomes of study visits with patients into study databases and complete required documentation for enrolled subjects according to protocol and institutional research guidelines.
Tumor and Basic Research
Responsible for the daily organization and associated duties of working with and maintaining tumor sample analyses and the handling of human tissue samples. Interaction with the research nurses to obtain patient blood samples and/or tumor samples may be necessary. The individual must maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records. Alertness and careful attention to details must be maintained at all times. Reads literature and confers with superiors regarding new procedures and modifies them according to the needs of the project. Records and evaluates data obtained in accordance with methods requested.
Molecular and Cell Biology Research
Perform laboratory work in molecular and cellular biology including but not limited to DNA preparation, and RNA extraction. Requires manual dexterity to handle pipetting tasks, visual activity to see and manipulate very small quantities. Must work independently to see that samples are obtained and processed in a timely and consistent fashion. This requires both an understanding of the methodology and the ability to independently troubleshoot problems and to ask for help when appropriate. The position requires standing for long periods of time, bending at the waist to pick up laboratory supplies, moving within the laboratory and between different core facilities of the hospital involved in the experimentation. Must be able to lift 15 pound above the shoulders. Work will involve handling materials under BL-2 safety conditions.
Clinical & Research Database
Maintains/designs clinical and research databases. Input data into the computer database and maintaining records and consistency in storage of large-scale research databases, including next-generation sequencing data. The source of such data may be from doctors, patients, family members, physician assistants, research nurses, and basic and translational research personnel. Maintains thorough, accurate, legible, and organized digital records of all experiments.
Bioinformatic Research
Performs analysis, visualization, and interpretation of next generation sequencing data, including WES, RNAseq, ATACseq, CUT&RUN, and single-cell RNA sequencing, both independently and in collaboration with team members. Requires knowledge of Python and R programming languages. Also assists with management of large-scale datasets and data annotation, as well as submission to data repositories. This includes knowledge of statistical tests for association, differences, survival analyses, and regression.
Other duties as assigned
Education Required - Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Preferred education: Master's degree in a related field.
Experience Required - Two years research study experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience. With preferred degree, no experience required.
