Research Assistant II - Imaging Physics

The primary purpose of the Research Assistant II is to assist the PI with scientific research projects. The Research Assistant II assists with the design and implementation of process flows, and algorithms used in experiments or research to obtain desired results. The Research Assistant II engages in artificial intelligence-based projects and algorithm training. The Research Assistant II assists in the evaluation research data, development and revisions of techniques or approaches to research problems. The Research Assistant II will compile, write up, and submit analyzed data and project results to superiors.

Ideal Candidate: has Computational science research experience and/or didactic training (e.g., BS or MS in the field). Experience with artificial intelligence research (could include class projects) and a basic working knowledge of the field. Strong communication and writing skills. And some exposure to working with medical images preferred.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Computational Science Engage in assisting lab personnel with development, testing, documentation and revisions of programs; assist in implementation and documentation of graphics, image processing and visualization software. Periodically, assists in literature searches on current technological developments in the fields of medical imaging and visualization and related software.

Artificial Intelligence Assists in research experiments in artificial intelligence under the supervision and mentorship of the PI and lab scientists. Assists with data mining, predictive modeling, clustering, and classification to help develop, train, and apply AI in large data environments.

Data Management & Dissemination Records and assists in data analysis. Assists the PI and senior lab staff with compiling and writing up experimental results and with manuscript preparation. Engages with team to implement new techniques and learn new skills to enhance research efforts.

Instrumentation Management and Troubleshooting Assists in the setup and maintenance of laboratory resources, including computational resources, databases, and equipment. Assists lab teammates with computational needs within the scope of their research projects.

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Required education: Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.
Preferred education: Masters level degree in physics, computational science, advanced mathematics or engineering field.

Required experience: One year experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
Preferred experience: Experience in computational science/programming and algorithm development.
