Postdoctoral Fellow - Plastic Surgery (Schaverien Lab)

The goal of the Department of Plastic Surgery postdoctoral research fellowship is to provide the fellow with a meaningful and in-depth exposure to basic science and translational research germane to plastic surgery, oncologic reconstruction, microsurgery, regenerative medicine, and related disciplines. The fellow will gain experience in research study design, institutional review board protocol creation and submission, research data compliance, database design and management, statistical analysis, research funding applications, as well as related techniques and skills.

At the completion of the one- or two-year curriculum the successful fellow will not only have an expert understanding of the research process and all that it requires, but also will have research projects that result in national and international presentations and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Goal 1: Formulate research questions and develop research protocols. Fellow may participate in formal training in biostatistics and research protocol formulation.

Goal 2: Understand the process of formulating basic science and translational research studies. Trainee will organize and participate in research meetings.

Goal 3: In depth understanding of data collection, biostatistics and data analysis as it relates to research. Trainee will be involved and mentored in basic science and translational research. Gain experience in data collection and analysis for research projects as well as in the preparation of research manuscripts for publication.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
The position is open to individuals holding a recent Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate as well as equivalent international post-doctoral degrees interested in basic science and translational plastic surgery research.

This appointment is not part of a clinical training program; individuals holding an M.D. degree or equivalent are not permitted to engage in patient care activity. Eligible candidates should have the following preferred experience: 1) data collection, 2) manuscript writing, 3) statistical analysis, 4) manuscript submissions, 6) critical revisions according to guidelines (mostly EQUATOR), and 7) study design and pilot testing.

POSITION INFORMATION
MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000. depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience.
