Lead Facilities Planner/Designer

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Lead Facilities Planner/Designer position in Facilities Planning, Design and Construction is to provide leadership and supervision in evaluating the use of MDACC's physical facilities and ensure effective utilization of space and interiors resources. Leads the definition of project scopes, preliminary budget estimates, and program descriptions in support of project development and implementation. Leads project planning teams on major and minor projects providing programming, planning, design, and furniture and equipment planning support, move coordination, and interiors resource management for projects. Leads the creation and refinement of institutional standards and assists with Strategic/Facilities Master Planning efforts from Department to Division levels.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Strategic Studies/Master Planning Coordination Strategic Space Studies and Master Planning, including Department or Division Strategic/ Facilities Planning and general space studies as requested by Sr. Management. Defines space programs and strategies for short term, mid-range, and long-range planning efforts. Provides schematic design services including, design studies, test-fits, reports and field measurements. Coordinates with Master Facility Framework and across FPS projects. Obtains all necessary approvals.

Customer Interaction/SME Handles high complexity customers and functions as a subject matter expert and key contact to divisions in providing updates, programming, planning and operational efficiency development on FARs current and future projects. Independently identifies and engages project stakeholders, ensures key decisions are documented through meeting notes, and informs customers of FAR process and status. Consults with architects, project managers, engineers and other staff regarding building codes, policies, guidelines and regulations.

Project/ Team Management Leads and/or supervises Planner/Designers through the Senior level on project programming and planning activities, provides guidance and assistance to team on project development and/or monitoring of applicable policies and procedures, and issue resolution. Identifies opportunities to mentor, share lessons-learned, and support the growth of teammates.

Planning/Design Standards Planning & Design Standards, including leading the development, revision, documentation, and implementation of standards programs for Space Allocation, Space Types, Interior Design Solutions, and FAR Process. Pursues educational opportunities to support continued growth in planning and programming related skills.

Space assignment/utilization Takes leadership role in maintenance and validation of space assignment/utilization and correcting inaccuracies that are discovered. Confirms accurate occupancy records and conducts surveys/assessments as necessary.

Document Management Document Management including written reports and project deliverables, issue logs, and key/milestone document management. Leads the creation, refinement, and utilization of standard templates. Creation and refinement of standard templates and regulatory related reports.

Institutional Goals/Initiatives Represents and coordinates efforts for FPS and other divisional or institutional goals and initiatives.

Other Duties as Assigned

Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Space Planning and/or Architecture. Seven years of experience in commercial Interior/Architectural design.
