Laboratory Coordinator 19 hours

The primary purpose of the Laboratory Coordinator is to provide supervision and technical management to Laboratory operations, which includes the authority to hire and evaluate performance. This position is responsible for the management, planning, development, budget, and other fiscal duties of a laboratory facility. Conducts laboratory research projects.
**This is a part time 19 hours a week non-benefited eligible position**
Key Functions
1. ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITY
* Initiates requests for new laboratory personnel. Works with Human Resources recruiter to identify potentially qualified applicants for lab positions. Conducts interviews and arranges interviews for the applicants with other employees and staff.
* Acts as contact between the Genitourinary Medical Oncology administrative offices and the laboratory. Maintains open communication with the Genitourinary Medical Oncology administrative staff.
* Visually monitors inventories of consumable common supplies and replaces depleted items in a timely fashion to ensure continuity in lab experimental procedures. Reviews and approves requests for new common supplies and implements purchases when necessary. Works closely with and maintains open communication with departmental Buyer.
* Assists with preparation of grant applications, manuscript submission, and quarterly and yearly reports as requested by PI.
* Provides estimates to P.I.s regarding the estimated needs and cost of personnel, equipment and supplies over the period of the proposed grant.
* Acts as property controller for all inventoried laboratory equipment. Maintains and updates equipment manuals and records. Resolves missing equipment items.
* Research report writing and presentation to funders.
2. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
* Provides justification for legislative and operating budgets.
* Reviews and makes recommendations for purchasing based on anticipated workload.
* Works with vendors to insure availability of newest laboratory products. Negotiates with vendors for best pricing on supplies and equipment.
* Aides in fiscal year budgetary planning. Provides cost breakdown of P.I. common account usage. Prepares common account lab operating budgets including justifications for new expenditures. Uses the computer to review online status of common account and accuracy of account records, expenditures and balances.
3. LABORATORY REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
* Supervise to ensure the laboratory's compliance to annual laboratory inspection.
* Responsible for renewing IACUC protocols, IBC protocols and IRB protocols.
* Supervises the overall appearance of the laboratory. Ensures that supplies and materials are stored properly.
4. LABORATORY FUNCTIONS
* After consulting the PI, develop necessary animal experiments and generate protocols that can be timely scheduled and executed.
* Train new staff on small animal surgical procedures including orthotopic prostate, subcutaneous, IV and Ip and IT injections.
* Proficient in tissue culturing techniques and passaging prostate tumor cells, PDX and organoids.
* Responsible for master cell lines in the laboratory.
* Knowledge of the mouse prostate reconstitution (MPR) system and be able to isolate UGS.
* Proficient in isolating DNA, RNA and proteins from tumor tissues.
* Proficient in generating PowerPoint files from raw data
* Capacity to rapidly learn new research software

Required: Five years of administrative and supervisory experience in a large institution.
Preferred: Previous MDA experience.
