The mission of The University of Texas M. D. The primary purpose of the Education Specialist is to work with stakeholders at all levels to design, deliver and evaluate effective educational components to support learning activities and interventions produced by the department of Education Development & Innovation, in order to build competency in healthcare professionals, contributing to quality improvement, safety and patient care
Key Functions
Program Administration (.30FT)
· Ensures courses and labs are prepared for educational activities.
· Oversees the enrollment and recruitment activities for the educational program.
· Attends meetings to inform stakeholders of program information as well as receive feedback regarding necessary changes/ improvements.
· Coordinates with units to schedule clinical rotations for learners.
· Provides department leadership with timely budget requests for programmatic requirements.
Education Development & Assessment (.60FT)
· Applies appropriate learning methodology to plan, develop and evaluate educational products for Department of Education Development & Innovation learning events, courses, curricula, and special projects.
· Designs and develops relevant, effective, and engaging educational products in accordance with clinical practice guidelines and adult learning theory.
· Creates original educational curricula in compliance with Council on Accreditation and Educational standards.
· Leads review sessions for educational curricula, facilitating discussion, evaluate effectiveness, and translating feedback into actionable development tasks.
· Works with appropriate accreditation agencies for program development and maintaining high quality healthcare standards.
· Provides continuous updates to curricula to reflect changes in industry standards to ensure program relevancy.
Professional Activities & Personal Development (.10FT)
· Maintains expertise on advances in professional education, including standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, software tools, and education systems.
· Engages in continuous education development to enhance educational skills.
· Engages in professional development related to the program area.
· Other duties as assigned.
Education
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Bachelor's and Master's degree in related field, or BSN with Endoscopy experience
Experience
Required: Three years of allied health experience to include one year clinical and/or didactic teaching. With preferred degree, one year allied health and clinical and/or didactive teaching. Certification/License in respective field
Preferred: Five (5) years of non-teaching work experience as an endoscopy technician. Minimum 1 year of clinical and/or didactic teaching experience. Current certification to practice in the State of Texas. Ability to understand and react effectively to the unique needs of the adult learner. Ability to teach in the classroom. Working knowledge of computer, anesthesia, and medical software and research process.
