Director, Clinical Pharmacy Services

The mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.

Provide leadership for clinical pharmacy services, pharmacy education programs, and cancer network.

Key Functions

Clinical Pharmacy Leadership

· Oversees clinical pharmacy practice including scope and responsibilities of CPS.

· Participates/leads development of policies, procedures, guidelines related to clinical pharmacy practice (DTM, TPN, Chemotherapy, etc.).

· Ensures CPS comply with all institutional and divisional and practice policies and other regulatory agencies (DTM, Joint Commission, TSBP, etc.).

· Submits and administers budget for department.

· Sets priorities for position requests for clinical pharmacy.

· Maintains relationships with clinical divisional leadership (cancer medicine, internal medicine, APP groups)

· Works collaboratively with recruitment to provide salary recommendations for department offers.

Educational Programs

· Oversees ACPE Continuing Education program for the Division of Pharmacy including submitting and administering budget and stays abreast of ACPE requirements and best practices.

· Oversees Division of Pharmacy Residency Programs including submitting and administering budget and staying abreast of ASHP accreditation standards, overseeing implementation of new standards.

· Oversees Division of Pharmacy Student programs, maintaining relationships with leadership from colleges of pharmacy, preparing and submitting invoices, maintaining contracts and interagency agreements with Colleges of Pharmacy.

Leadership

· Oversees additional pay programs within clinical pharmacy department and the division of pharmacy.

· Provides leadership and oversees pharmacy involvement with MDACC Cancer Network.

· Provides HR administrative performance procedures and development opportunities for direct reports (AD, program director, cancer network, etc.)

· Continues leadership education and training through the Leadership Institute or other offerings.

· Participate in the pharmacy leadership incident command on-call.

· Collaborate/participate in Leadership of the Division of Pharmacy including, but not limited to cross department projects, quality improvement activities, and DOP Strategic Planning.

· Participate in Division of Pharmacy and institutional committees and initiatives.

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

Required: Doctorate (Professional)

Certification

Required: Registered Pharmacist in the State of Texas

Experience
  • Completion of PGY1 and PGY2 residency or equivalent experience
  • Clinical Pharmacy Practice 5 years
  • Clinical Pharmacy Management experience 5 years
  • Experience precepting Pharmacy residents

Preferred Experience

  • Completion of PGY1 and PGY2 residency in oncology
  • Clinical Pharmacy Practice 5 years in oncology
  • Clinical Pharmacy Management experience 5+ years
  • Experience with ACPE and ASHP residency standards
