College Student - Internship

Learn about the behind-the-scenes look at the Advanced Breast Cancer (ABC) Program at MD Anderson Cancer Center. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a comprehensive cancer center in Houston, Texas. It is the largest cancer center in the U.S. and one of the original three comprehensive cancer centers in the country. As part of Breast Medical Oncology, the Advanced Breast Cancer Program will represent the voice of the patients and be a patient-driven model of best practices that provides multidimensional treatment and psychosocial support for the highest level of timely, comprehensive care to positively impact the quantity and quality of life to create the healthiest life possible for all MD Anderson patients living with ABC. The ABC Program will disseminate optimized models of care and innovate future standards.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
In this internship, you will learn the principles of growing and maintaining a healthcare program.
• Learn about peer support and patient educational needs by attending the virtual support groups and educational webinars with patients
• Learn about program management by participating in virtual meetings with ABC program staff
• Learn about communication strategies by collaborating on the development of program graphics and power point slide deck
• Learn about the strategic planning process at MD Anderson and the ABC Program. Learn about metastatic breast cancer research
• Learn about the services of the ABC Program by collaborating on program statistics
• Learn about clinical trial basics and processes at MD Anderson
• Be part of an exchange of ideas and cross-department collaborations to help patients with ABC

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
• Applicant must be currently enrolled in a high school or undergraduate degree program
• Applicant must be at least 18 years of age by the appointment start date

Qualifications:
• The successful candidate will be a current senior or college-aged student.
• This candidate will be responsible, and punctual, and possess strong organizational skills, an ability to think critically and manage time wisely, and robust verbal and written communication skills.
• They will also demonstrate a passion for oncology healthcare management.
