REQUIREMENTS
Education: Pharm.D. degree from accredited college of Pharmacy
Preferred Education: Doctorate (Professional)
Certification: All of the following:
Texas State Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist license within 90 days of job entry.
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of job entry.
Preferred Certification: Board certification - Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties
Experience: Post Graduate Year 1 (Pharmacy Practice) and Post Graduate Year 2 (in the areas of specialization) residency -OR- equivalent experience as a Clinical Pharmacist in the area of specialization and five years experience in clinical pharmacy services. . .Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.
Preferred Experience: MD Anderson clinical pharmacy experience

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Personnel Management 40%
- Assists in the recruitment, interviewing and hiring of Clinical Pharmacy Specialists
- Ensures all new employees are properly trained and competencies assessed prior to independent practice and periodically according to division and institutional policies.
- Assess staff competence and performance levels, provides coaching, mentoring, performance management, as well as completion of annual performance evaluation in accordance with institutional policies and procedures.
- Responsible for maintaining appropriate staffing levels. Manages time off requests for assigned employees to ensure appropriate patient care coverage.
- Provides clear direction and communication to employees within the department.
Clinical Pharmacy Services Management 30-40%
- Maintains a limited clinical pharmacy practice to lead initiatives involving patient care, education, quality, research, and employee development.
- Directs workflow and project assignments.
- Promotes and maintains constructive intra and interdepartmental relationships by working collaboratively to develop and improve patient care outcomes.
- Guides/directs resolution of service related, EHR and patient care tools issues.
- Actively participates in assigned institutional and divisional committees.
- Maintains best clinical pharmacy practices as defined by institutional, legal, and national standards.
- Contributes to the development of a comprehensive program of continuing quality assessment and improvement to ensure patient safety and appropriate patient outcomes for medication use process.
- Identifies and reports quality and workload monitoring metrics.
- Participates in the TRB and other safety initiatives/programs.
Specialty Program Management - Manager would have one or more of these responsibilities (not all) 30-40%
- Trainee programs and accreditation.
- Quality and Performance Improvement.
- Serve as department Quality officer.
- ACPE and other Education Programs.
- New service development.
- EHR Specialist (CDS, pump integration, standards, etc).
- Antimicrobial Stewardship program.
- Nutrition Support Team.
- Patient Safety reporting and metrics.
- I-vents development, reporting and metrics.
- New Program Management (ie CAR T).
- Implements new technology or institutional initiatives.
- Assists in development and implements of new programs.
