Clinical Nurse, Outpatient (Pacemaker) - Cardiopulmonary Center

SUMMARY

Clinical Nurse opportunity in the Cardiopulmonary Center. The ideal candidate will be an RN with at least one to two years of experience working directly with cardiac devices; oncology nursing experience is a plus.

Shift: Monday - Friday day shift

Center Specific Knowledge Demonstrates application of knowledge and skills necessary to carry out patient care in the Cardiopulmonary Center. Coordination of care with other services involved in the patient's care and treatment. The RN is responsible for the treatment oversight of pacemaker/ICD transtelephonic checks and more advanced pacer/ICD interrogations. The RN interrogates implanted defibrillators, pacemakers and loop records, takes phone calls from device patients, manages remote checks, and collaborates with MDs, RNs, and devices vendors. Educate patients regarding lifestyle modification, health risks, and outcomes of pacemaker therapy.

Clinical Knowledge
Interrogates implanted pacemakers/ ICD's (in-house and remote), evaluates the findings and reports them to the physician / designee, reprograms devices under the direction of the physician / designee, prepares reports for the device interrogations.

Assesses patient needs; plans and implements patient care activities and evaluates the patient's response to treatment.

Assures compliance with regulatory and accrediting specifications to meet federal, state and local standards.

Assists medical and administrative staff in formulating goals and objectives to deliver the most accurate and timely care possible.

Instructs and counsels patients and families or treatment team concerning home care, potential problems, emotional concerns or utilization review status.

Participates in regularly scheduled team conferences and collaborates with related health care providers in treatment discharge planning and provisions of care.

Serves in an information resources capacity for hospital nursing personnel, provides advice concerning procedures, care techniques, and other developments.

Functions as liaison between patients and physicians, other nursing personnel.

Participates in the development of nursing policies. Develops and/or acquires instructional materials., supplies, and equipment necessary to conduct training sessions.

Prepares and maintains records and reports concerning operations. Remains abreast of developments in the field of nursing or utilization review by attending seminars and workshops, communicating with peers, and reading pertinent literature. Incorporates such advancements in continuing education and nursing practice.

Education

Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Preferred: Bachelor's Level Degree

Certification

Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification if working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi - Child & Adolescent Center (113200).

Preferred: Certified in Cardiology, Oncology Nursing, Ambulatory, or Medical-Surgical.

Experience

Required: None

Preferred: One to two years of experience working directly with cardiac devices. Oncology nursing experience is a plus.
