Supervisor, Advanced Practice Provider or Physician Assistant - Hospital Medicine

The primary purpose of the Supervisor, Advanced Practice Provider, in the Department of Hospital Medicine is to administratively supervise, plan and coordinate the inpatient Hospitalist clinical advanced practice providers (APPs) team that supports the clinical programs and services for the department of Hospital Medicine (DHM) that operates 24/7/365, nocturnal shifts will also be supported by the hospitalist advanced practice providers for after-hours and weekend coverage, rotating holidays and COVID coverage. The supervisor will devote 75% clinical effort to direct patient care according to the Advanced Practice Provider's State of Texas clinical license and 25% administrative duties.

This will be a Monday-Friday role working 06:30am-5:00pm. Training period will required 100% onsite presence.

The salary range for this position is Minimum-$129,000 - Midpoint-$161,500 - Maximum-$194,000.

This role impacts the inpatient Hospitalist Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) teams and is responsible for overall operations, staffing, operational planning, quality assurance, and administrative oversight of activities and personnel that support inpatient clinical operations and programs.

Job Specific Competencies
Staff Management
• Administratively supervises the Department of Hospital Medicine Advanced Practice Providers (APPs).
• Oversees day to day operations and procedures for the inpatient APP clinical practice.
• Ensures appropriate staffing levels by developing and managing the team's staffing plan.
• Collaborates with the Manager, Advanced Practice Provider, and Faculty in recruitment activities, including candidate screening, interviewing, and selection of APPs.
• Ensures all new APPs are appropriately oriented to the department and institution.
• Serves as a liaison between Faculty, Administrators, and the APP team.
• Assists the Manager, Advanced Practice Provider with performance improvement processes for assigned clinical teams or individual providers as needed.
• Assists with Hospitalist patient distribution when assigned.
• Meets weekly with the APRN Manager to review overall clinical and administrative operations.

Compliance
• Ensures APPs function in accordance with federal and state regulations, as well as institutional policies and procedures.
• In collaboration with the APRN Manager, develops and monitors compliance with education and training requirements.
• Completes all required performance evaluations and Professional Practice Model (PPM) evaluations.
• Ensures alignment of individual APP goals with departmental objectives.

Direct Patient Care
• Functions as a clinical Advanced Practice Provider, within licensed scope, at a proportion appropriate for the team and approved program expectations.
• Maintains licensure, certifications, and continuing education requirements in accordance with clinical appointment and regulatory standards.
• Provides patient centered care appropriate to the populations served.

Quality
• Assists in the development, implementation, and administration of departmental policies and procedures.
• Collaborates with APP leadership and department leadership on the development and continuous improvement of the APP Program.
• Completes a minimum of 16 hours of continuing education annually focused on people leadership competencies.

Other
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
  • Required: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas State Board Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) or Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners (TSBNE), as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: 2 years Experience as advanced practice provider.
