Student Extern - General Accounting

The ideal candidate for the Student Extern General Accounting role is a junior- or senior-level college student pursuing coursework relevant to accounting, finance, business, or a related field, with the ability to communicate effectively, demonstrate continuous learning, and apply analytical skills in a professional environment; no specific licenses or certifications are provided.

Minimum $18.00 - Midpoint $22.00 - Maximum $26.00 per hour based on a 40-hour work week. The typical work schedule is Day/Evening, Part Time - up to 19 hours. Work location is remote with the ability to come onsite occasionally.

Responsibilities

Institutional Finance and Supply Chain Training

Complete training in Oracle PeopleSoft functions, OBIEE reports, requisition creation, Accounts Payable, Procure to Pay, and General Accounting entry creation and submission
Perform Excel-based data consolidation activities to support reporting and analysis
Assist with development of detailed training and process documentation

Analysis and Data Management

Perform queries over large data sets to support analytical reporting and trend analysis
Consolidate, summarize, analyze, and interpret transaction data for finance and supply chain reporting
Document interpretations of results, identifying patterns and trends in deliverables
Participate in projects related to procure to pay variances and vendor contract analysis

Budgeting and Financial Research

Run queries for personnel and non-personnel transactions to support budgeting efforts
Research transactions to determine root causes of balance sheet and income statement account changes
Propose potential adjustments based on research findings

Accounting and Reconciliations

Reconcile basic financial statement accounts including bank, cash clearing, accrual, prepaid, and expense accounts
Identify reconciling items and propose solutions for incorrect journal entry postings
Prepare and record standard recurring journal entries such as inter-departmental and non-salary cost transfers

Training, Collaboration, and Support

Seek cross-functional training opportunities to expand knowledge and skills
Collaborate with colleagues to improve efficiency and enhance deliverables
Perform other duties as assigned to support institutional finance and supply chain operations
