Postdoctoral Fellow - Sarcoma Medical Oncology - Research

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Department of Sarcoma Medical Oncology. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of sarcoma research and the ability to identify gaps, develop testable hypotheses, and design rigorous research protocols. Responsibilities include conducting and analyzing research, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to grant applications and scientific publications.
The fellow must demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills and be trained in responsible conduct of research, including ethical data management and compliance with regulations for human and/or animal research. Experience identifying and addressing research misconduct, conflicts of interest, and adherence to institutional and regulatory guidelines is required.

All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Learn preparation of clinical research protocols and research grants.
Train and observe w/ faculty mentor in conducting literature reviews for manuscripts/grant writing.

Learn application of research methods in clinical research setting.
Train and observe faculty mentor in abstracting data from medical records for clinical studies.

Learn how to create databases.
Train and observe mentor in creating databases for collecting research data.

This is a research appointment, and no patient care activities are permitted. Research trainees have the following privileges and restrictions:
Research trainees may attend conferences and lectures;

Research trainees may not observe clinics, OR, and rounds, in clinical or in-patient locations; perform a primary medical evaluation or a history and physical examination; participate in decisions concerning the management of a patient; render treatment or other patient services; order tests or services; or write in the medical record.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
For an individual to be eligible for a postdoctoral fellow appointment, all of the following conditions must be met:
• The appointee recently (within three years) completed their education (doctorate) or completed previous postdoctoral experience or graduate medical education
• The appointment is temporary
• The appointment involves substantial full-time research or scholarship
• The appointment is viewed as preparatory for a full-time academic and/or research career
• The appointment is not part of a clinical training program
• The appointee works under the supervision of a senior scholar or a department in a university or similar research institution (e.g., national laboratory, National Institutes of Health (NIH), etc.)
• The appointee has the freedom to and is expected to publish the results of his or her research or scholarship during the period of the appointment

POSITION INFORMATION
MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000. depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience.
