Pharmacy Technician Supervisor - Inpatient

Our Inpatient Pharmacy team delivers comprehensive and high-quality medication distribution services across the hospital. We manage all aspects of inpatient drug delivery - including unit dose dispensing, IV admixture preparation, and specialized systems for controlled substances and investigational drugs.

We leverage advanced automation and robotic dispensing technology to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and patient safety in every step of the process.

Ideal Candidate will have an Associate's Degree and Five years of experience as a pharmacy technician, including two years in a lead, supervisory or project management capacity. Candidate will have pharmacy experience training staff; experience in a leadership role, experience with people management.

Working Hours: The working hours are 7am - 3:30pm, Monday - Friday

Job-Specific Competencies

1. Pharmacy Area Supervision / Responsibilities
  • Supervise staff to ensure proper medication management, including:
    • Procurement
    • Compounding/repackaging
    • Distribution
  • Assist in interviewing and selecting new Pharmacy Technicians
  • Oversee training and competency validation for all Pharmacy Technicians
  • Ensure appropriate staffing through effective scheduling
  • Complete employee performance evaluations in a timely manner
  • Initiate corrective actions and documentation; escalate issues as needed
  • Maintain accurate and timely personnel records and documentation

2. Pharmacy Systems, Quality Assurance & Project Management
  • Perform duties competently as a pharmacy technician across all areas as needed
  • Maintain working knowledge of:
    • Pharmacy computer systems
    • Equipment and automation tools
  • Ensure proper maintenance of equipment through:
    • Routine inspections
    • Timely service calls
  • Monitor operational areas for:
    • Environmental deficiencies
    • Safety risks or concerns
  • Ensure Quality Assurance (QA) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI):
    • Are consistently completed
    • Properly documented
  • Assess operational needs visually and take proactive action
  • Delegate projects to team members or complete tasks independently

3. Leadership
  • Monitor workflow to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and on time
  • Adjust staffing levels or assignments as needed
  • Collaborate with team members to evaluate processes and implement improvements
  • Partner with nursing and other departments to assess and meet service needs
  • Demonstrate strong leadership by:

Education
  • Required:
    • Associate's Degree
  • Preferred:
    • Certificate from an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program

Licensure / Certification
  • Required:
    • Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)
    • Certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • Preferred:
    • ACPE-approved IV (sterile products) certification
    • Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT), if applicable

Experience
  • Required:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician
    • At least 2 years in a lead, supervisory, or project management role
    • Additional equivalent experience may substitute for the required degree on a one-to-one basis
    • Completion of the Leading Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of supervisory/management experience
  • Preferred:
    • Experience training pharmacy staff
    • Leadership experience
    • People management experience

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
