The Per Diem Inpatient Clinical Dietitian (RD/LD) position at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Texas Medical Center is responsible for providing inpatient nutrition care for patients. The RD/LD must be proficient in a wide range of clinical nutrition assessment and nutrition education for adults and children.
This position will work a maximum of 19 hours per week. This position will be 100% onsite at the Medical Center campus.
Flat Hourly Rate: $45.00 per hour
The Clinical Nutrition department at MD Anderson consists of registered dietitians that provide comprehensive nutrition care for our patients. Registered Dietitians (RDs) are experts in nutrition with extensive training. Our dietitians work with MD Anderson's medical teams to pinpoint opportunities for nutrition intervention or support.
Our services include education, assessment, and counseling in:
- Cancer prevention
- Nutrition intervention prior to, during and after treatment
- Management of treatment side effects
- Specialized diets
- Management of specialized feeding regimens like tube feeds and IV parenteral nutrition

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
Provides quality, evidence-based nutrition care that aligns with the patient's diagnosis, treatment plan, age, nutrition status, and other individualized needs in the acute care environment. Conducts comprehensive nutrition assessments for medically complex patients by integrating subjective and objective data, performing nutrition focused physical assessments, consulting with the interdisciplinary team, and evaluating information from the electronic medical record. Determines individualized nutrient needs and develops a comprehensive plan of care using department-established guidelines and clinical judgment. Works in partnership with the interdisciplinary team and actively participates in patient care rounds by recommending, implementing, and monitoring of nutrition interventions to support optimal outcomes. Completes timely documentation in the medical record in adherence to department standards, policies, and regulatory requirements. Provides initial and ongoing or follow-up care according to established timeframes and reassessment criteria. Identifies patient and family education needs, assesses barriers to learning and patient understanding, provides appropriate instructions utilizing appropriate modalities, and documents interventions per policy.
EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's degree and completion of an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics approved dietetic internship or its equivalent.
Preferred: Master's degree in directly related field would be a plus.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: At least four years of clinical dietitian experience with Bachelor's degree. With Master's degree or advanced certification, at least two years of clinical experience required.
Preferred: Oncology experience would be a plus.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
Required: Both current Registered Dietitian (RD) and current Licensed Dietitian (LD).
