Patient Care Technician - Telemetry & Thoracic/Cardiovascular Unit

The Patient Care Technician role at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center supports direct patient care within the Telemetry & Thoracic/Cardiovascular Unit. This unit provides specialized care for patients with cardiac, thoracic, and vascular conditions, including continuous telemetry monitoring, post-operative care for heart and lung surgeries, and comprehensive recovery support through advanced technology and a multidisciplinary care model. The Patient Care Technician plays an essential role in supporting safe, high-quality outcomes by assisting patients and care teams throughout the inpatient experience.

In this role, the Patient Care Technician works closely with registered nurses and the interdisciplinary team to ensure patients receive timely, compassionate, and effective care in a fast-paced clinical environment.

The ideal candidate for the Patient Care Technician role has a high school diploma or equivalent, demonstrates a commitment to patient-centered care, and has experience or interest in working directly with patients in a healthcare setting.

Minimum $18.27 - Midpoint $22.84 - Maximum $27.40 per hour, based on a 40-hour work week.
The typical work schedule is nights or days with rotating shifts, including 7pm-7am and 3pm-11pm or 7am - 7pm and 3pm - 11pm, with rotating weekends and holidays required.
Work Location: Onsite.

Responsibilities

Patient Care Support
• Provide patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, nutrition, and mobility
• Support patient mobilization and positioning to promote comfort and safety
• Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers

Clinical Monitoring and Documentation
• Obtain and record vital signs accurately and timely
• Update and retrieve patient information as required for care coordination
• Communicate relevant observations and changes to the nursing team

Environment and Team Collaboration
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly patient environment
• Act as an active member of the assigned multidisciplinary care team
• Support unit workflows to promote patient comfort and positive outcomes
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet patient care needs

EDUCATION
  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: None
  • Preferred: Experience working in a hospital environment or oncology experience a plus.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Preferred: CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant Upon Hire

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
