Outpatient Clinical Nurse / Theranostics

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Outpatient Clinical Nurse plays a critical role in advancing this mission by delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to patients in the Theranostics Clinical Operations Department. The department focuses on coordinating specialized outpatient care, ensuring seamless patient experiences across the continuum.

The Outpatient Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and implementing patient care while collaborating with an inter-professional team. The Outpatient Clinical Nurse is accountable for delivering safe, effective, and resource-conscious care, and the Outpatient Clinical Nurse serves as a patient and family advocate, supporting care delivery and team coordination within UT MD Anderson.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in nursing practice with a commitment to evidence-based care, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Experience in outpatient or specialty clinical environments, the ability to work autonomously, and demonstrated strengths in communication, mentoring, and clinical decision-making are preferred. Licensure and educational preparation should align with professional nursing standards.

Shift/Hours: Monday - Friday / 8am - 5pm

Responsibilities

Patient Care Delivery & Coordination
• Provide quality, evidence-based patient care using appropriate clinical resources
• Coordinate care across the continuum in collaboration with the inter-professional team
• Advocate for patients and families to uphold patient rights
• Organize and prioritize activities of the patient care team to ensure efficient workflow

Transformational Leadership & Unit Operations
• Participate in daily unit operations to support financial and operational goals
• Deliver fiscally responsible care while anticipating patient and family needs
• Utilize material resources effectively for direct patient care
• Practice autonomously within the scope of professional nursing practice
• Support and implement change initiatives in daily clinical practice
• Foster peer relationships and mentor team members
• Promote an environment that values staff and patients

• Apply new and existing evidence to patient care standards and clinical practice

EDUCATION
  • Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Nursing.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license. Upon Hire and

  • Required: ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support If working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761). Upon Hire or
  • Required: PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support If working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi - Child & Adolescent Center (113200). Upon Hire
  • Preferred: OCN - Oncology Nurse Certification Certification in specialty practice area. Upon Hire

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
