Medical Assistant - Head and Neck Ophthalmology

The Medical Assistant supports ambulatory care operations within the Main Building at MD Anderson Cancer Center by providing direct patient care assistance and customer service support as delegated. The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in daily clinic operations by assisting clinical staff, supporting patients through their care experience, and maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient clinical environment. The Medical Assistant works closely with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.

The ideal candidate for the Medical Assistant role has a high school diploma or equivalent, at least one year of medical assistant experience, and demonstrates strong communication, teamwork, and customer service skills. Preferred candidates may be graduates of an approved Medical Assistant program or a U.S. Military medical services training program and bring the ability to work efficiently, remain calm in dynamic clinical settings, and maintain confidentiality while supporting diverse patient populations.

Salary range - Minimum $41,500.00 - Midpoint $52,000.00 - Maximum $62,500.00
The typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
Work location: Main Building.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist Staff & Patient Care
• Complete routine patient care assignments and collect patient data as delegated
• Accurately record vital signs and report abnormalities to nursing staff
• Assist Patient Aides with activities of daily living, mobilization, greeting, rooming, and vital signs
• Complete information on FML, disability, and other forms and produce or send patient result letters as delegated

Work Environment & Equipment
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly clinical environment
• Stock and maintain patient care supplies and equipment in compliance with policy
• Clean, store, prepare, and coordinate maintenance of medical equipment
• Clean and prepare medical instruments as required
• Maintain inventories of laboratory and medical supplies
• Support compliance with regulatory agencies and participate in Joint Commission rounds

Communication & Patient Interaction
• Escalate significant patient events and care concerns to appropriate nursing staff
• Maintain security and confidentiality of patient information at all times
• Interact with patients and customers using language of caring and demonstrating core values

Productivity & Teamwork
• Prioritize and complete work efficiently while practicing cost containment
• Demonstrate initiative, flexibility, and effective use of time, equipment, and supplies
• Function as a supportive team member fostering constructive relationships

EDUCATION
• Required: High school diploma or equivalent
• Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or U.S. Military medical services training program
WORK EXPERIENCE
• Required: One year of medical assistant experience
• Preferred: No experience required with completion of a preferred degree or training program

• Preferred: CMA - Certified Medical Asst American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Upon Hire
• Preferred: RMA - Reg Medical Assistant American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT). Upon Hire
• Preferred: CCMA - Cert Clinical Medical Asst National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Upon Hire
• Preferred: National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)-NCTT National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Upon Hire
• Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire
