Maintenance Technician

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support the PCPF-O&M department, which is responsible for maintaining mission critical, 24/7 facility operations that directly impact patient care. The Maintenance Technician plays a key role in ensuring reliability, safety, and continuous uptime of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems in a highly collaborative, accountability-driven environment.

The Maintenance Technician role requires strong technical skills, independence during overnight operations, and effective coordination with cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate brings a combination of hands-on multi-trade experience and strong interpersonal skills. Preferred qualifications emphasize experience in plumbing, electrical work, and customer service, along with exposure to Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). Candidates should be self-motivated, comfortable working independently on weekend night shifts, and capable of maintaining high standards of safety and professionalism in a healthcare or similarly critical environment.

Salary Range: Minimum $57,500.00 - Midpoint $72,000.00 - Maximum $176,500.00
The typical work schedule is Saturdays/Sundays: 7pm to 7:30am (12 hours each day); Mondays/Tuesdays: 11pm to 7:30am (8 hours each day)
Work Location: 100% onsite

Key Responsibilities
Maintenance, Repair & Troubleshooting
• Perform repairs, troubleshooting, routing, and preventive maintenance on equipment, buildings, and utility systems
• Maintain accurate records of materials, work performed, and related documentation
• Notify management of all identified equipment repairs
• Clean and maintain equipment and work areas
• Repair or replace ceiling grids and tiles
• Provide initial HVAC response for hot/cold calls, odors, and exhaust issues
• Assist with HVAC equipment repair or replacement
• Provide plumbing response including unclogging toilets and sinks and shutting off fixture stops
• Use sewer machines on floor drains and replace faucets, valves, and fixtures
• Perform electrical tasks including replacing lamps, ballasts, switches, receptacles, and light diffusers
Preventive Maintenance & Work Coordination
• Assist with preventive maintenance tasks as assigned
• Manage assigned work orders and complete them according to schedule
• Ensure completed work meets standards of cleanliness, maintenance quality, and safety
• Maintain knowledge of building and utility systems
• Collaborate with team members across all trades to resolve issues
• Interpret instructions, blueprints, sketches, and diagrams
• Coordinate workflow for technicians and mechanics as needed
• Assist with outage investigations
• Participate in process improvement initiatives
Customer Service & Communication
• Respond to customer calls and provide customer service
• Maintain ongoing communication with customers and clients regarding work status
• Understand customer needs and ensure timely resolution of issues
Documentation & Reporting
• Provide accurate documentation of corrective actions, labor hours, and materials used
• Communicate promptly with supervisors regarding work issues or delays
Emergency Response
• Respond to facility emergencies, including Code Red alarms

EDUCATION
  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree Trade or technical school

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: 2 years Experience in one or more crafts (i.e. plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, instrumentation).
  • Preferred: Hands-on experience with plumbing repairs (unclog toilets, clear drains, fixture replacement). Electrical experience with replacing ballasts, lamps, bulbs and lighting fixtures
