SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Plumber is to provide skilled plumbing work of the journeyman level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of domestic water, steam, natural gas, sewer, compressed air, vacuum, medical gases, and other utility systems. Responsible for assigned plumbing duties either issued orally or by written instructions. Responsible for the supervision of all plumbing and piping work for production and quality control purposes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Interprets and works from instructions, blueprints, sketches and diagrams in the installation of plumbing systems. Estimates cost of work, requisitions material and maintains inventories. Performs a variety of plumbing work incidental to the installation and repair of air conditioning, refrigeration and other building systems. Coordinates and prioritizes the workflow of plumbers, technicians and mechanics. Investigates outages. Participates in the development of the "Owners Design Guidelines", project design phases and review processes. Inspects contracted plumbing work to ensure repairs and installations are compliant. Functions as a point of contact for vendors. Prepares and submits reports. Participates in process improvement initiatives. May precept staff.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Maintain an Efficient Response to Work Orders and Assist Other Shops
• Install new plumbing systems such as; CO², compressed house and lab air, vacuum, natural gas, domestic hot/cold water, RO water, sanitary/storm, and vents.
• Repair and maintain existing plumbing systems such as; CO², compressed house and lab air, vacuum, natural gas, domestic hot/cold water, RO water, sanitary/storm, and vents.
• Understand the use of threading machines, ratchets, and all hand and shop tools of the trade (i.e., pipethreader, cutter and reamer, system hangars, and unistruts).
• Respond to all client "Dispatch" work order requests.
• Requisition parts and materials using Stock Issue forms to help maintain O&M Warehouse inventory.
• Develop plans, specifications and estimated costs on repairs, alterations and construction projects. Estimate labor requirements for "C" work orders.
• Provides back-up support for the other crafts (refrigeration, electrical, and general maintenance)
Performs Preventative Maintenance (PM's) on Equipment and Plumbing Systems
• Manage and assist in the preventative maintenance program for all client sterilization and glass wash equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on restrooms, drinking fountains, air compressors, vacuum pumps, and lab area plumbing systems.
• Clean assigned areas.
Ensure Proper Functioning Systems & Alarms
•Respond to all critical equipment alarms.
•Respond to all code red alarms at all the REF South Campus facilities
•Properly install medical and laboratory gas systems.
•Repair and clean sewer pipes.
Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
•Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to record directly in mobile device all work performed, status updates to work orders, issuance of parts/materials to work orders, and to electronically create new work orders utilizing the standards provided.
Other duties as assigned.
• Participate in walk-thru inspections of facility construction projects, engineering drawing and submittal reviews, substantial completion inspections, etc.
• Completes all required training and maintains all tools assigned in good working condition.
• Emergency event response and participation in ride out events when needed.
• Miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisor / manager.
Other duties as assigned.
•Lead Tech responsibilities: -Inspections -Plan/Design Reviews -Formally documents shop tasks and practices to allow for standard responses to campus work through the interaction/communication with staff. -Provides guidance for shop products or services. -Provides feedback on addressing process improvement issues and Shop training program development.
•Participate in walk-thru inspections of construction projects and create punch lists for discrepancies.
•Completes all required paperwork and reports - timesheets, activity logs, etc.
Oversee Vendor Contracts/JCAHO Compliance
•Oversee certifications and deliveries on all medical gases for South Campus facilities, by maintaining system reports for usage, leaks, repairs, PM's, purity analysis and JCAHO compliance.
•Review project drawings and specifications of work scheduled to be performed by outside contractors.

EDUCATION
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Completion of a recognized apprenticeship.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: One year Post-journeyman experience plumbing experience.

- Required: JRNY-P - Journeyman Plumber Texas. Upon Hire
- Preferred: BPAT - Backflow Prev Assembly Tester Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Upon Hire
