The Financial Clearance Supervisor supports the Financial Clearance Center within Patient Financial Services by providing direct supervisory oversight of Financial Clearance Associates and daily financial clearance operations. The Financial Clearance Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring accurate eligibility and benefits verification, effective financial counseling, and adherence to institutional policies that support a positive patient experience. Through leadership, coaching, and operational coordination, the Financial Clearance Supervisor helps ensure patients are financially cleared prior to care delivery.

Responsibilities
Operational Oversight and Supervision
• Supervise and coordinate daily activities related to timely and complete verification of eligibility and benefits
• Provide direct supervisory oversight to Financial Clearance Associates and day-to-day Financial Clearance Center operations
• Monitor daily activity and performance metrics reports to improve process flows and procedures
• Review, track, and manage designated departmental work queues to ensure timely resolution of patient accounts
Insurance Verification and Payor Management
• Ensure insurance verification is complete for each MD Anderson patient
• Maintain eligibility and benefits for each patient throughout the financial clearance process
• Demonstrate understanding of payor groups, individual health plans, and payor plan codes
• Facilitate insurance coverage resolution, escalate complex issues, and assist with spot agreements when required
• Support staff in interpreting payor medical coverage policies to support continuity of care discussions
Financial Counseling and Patient Support
• Supervise the financial counseling function to ensure patients are informed of payment options and cost estimates
• Ensure proper guidance related to patient assistance programs and payment collection
• Facilitate administration of the Patient Financial Assistance process
• Serve as a resource to support meaningful discussions with patients regarding financial responsibilities
Quality Assurance and Compliance
• Perform quality assurance checks and review case documentation for accuracy and completeness
• Ensure compliance with MD Anderson policies, FCC procedures, and regulatory requirements
• Maintain knowledge of systems and processes impacting admissions, verification, and patient access
• Review and understand the denials process and patient bad debt related to eligibility functions
Leadership, Training, and Collaboration
• Hire, evaluate, mentor, and provide ongoing feedback to designated staff
• Assist the Manager with onboarding, education, and ongoing training for new and existing staff
• Act as a liaison with Patient Access, Clinical Operations, health plans, third-party vendors, and patients
• Provide ongoing updates and education to staff regarding payor-related requirements
• Assist with continuous improvement planning to maintain departmental compliance and performance

EDUCATION
- Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Nursing.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: 5 years Clinical nursing to include one year of experience in utilization review, case management, discharge collaborative planning, Quality Assurance or team lead experience. or
- Required: 2 years Clinical nursing experience with preferred degree.
- Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.
- Preferred: Clinical Trial Lifecycle Management(Phases I - IV), protocol development and amendments, adverse event reporting, and informed consent process a plus.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Upon Hire and
- Required: BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire or
- Required: CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation Upon Hire
- Preferred: CCM - Certified Case Manager Commission for Case Manager Certification Upon Hire
- Preferred: ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification as required by patient care area. Upon Hire
