Evidence Coordinator, Police Department

The Evidence Coordinator will provides care, custody, and control of all evidence and found property retained and stored in the UT Police Department. They will be responsible for organizing, managing, and supporting the use of information (evidence) to guide decision-making and quality improvement.
The ideal candidate is a highly organized and detail-oriented professional with strong accountability skills who ensures the secure management, documentation, and disposition of evidence and found property while maintaining strict chain-of-custody standards and supporting law enforcement operations.

KEY FUNCTIONS:
* Ensures the integrity of the evidence room to be safe, secure, and in proper condition.
* Maintains a log documenting all persons who enter the evidence room and a written chain of custody.
* Retrieves evidence from secured lockers upon notification, then logs and secures items in the Evidence Room.
* For suspected narcotics and dangerous drugs, transports substances to the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office for analysis and storage until the case is adjudicated.
* Obtains results of analysis and provides to investigator(s) for criminal prosecution.
* After adjudication, it returns the substance to the UT Police Evidence Room.
* Maintains continuous accountability for every item of evidence at all times.
* Tracks the disposition of criminal cases and prepares evidence destruction orders.
* Retains copies of all destruction court orders that have been destroyed.
* Processes and releases evidence to owners as warranted.
* Reconciles found property against the log.
* Attempts to locate owners and releases found property to owners upon request.
* Prepares monthly evidence and found property inventory reports.
* Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Preferred: Associate's Degree Criminal justice.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Five years in policing/security, evidentiary procedures, inventory maintenance experience or a related field.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Required: TDL - Texas Drivers License Valid Texas Class A, B, or C driver's license.
