As an Assistant Data Scientist, you will contribute to software development, data analysis, and treatment-planning technologies that support critical cancer care and research efforts.

Within Radiation Physics - Research, the Assistant Data Scientist collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to develop and maintain algorithms, software tools, and computational infrastructure. The Assistant Data Scientist plays an important role in supporting dose computations, treatment planning, image processing, and scientific analyses while growing technical expertise under direct supervision at UT MD Anderson.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or a related field, with a master's degree preferred. Candidates who demonstrate strong analytical abilities, programming aptitude, curiosity for scientific discovery, and an interest in computational applications for proton therapy and radiation physics will be well suited for this opportunity.

Salary Range (40-hour work week): Minimum $32.93/hour - Midpoint $41.11/hour - Maximum $49.28/hour

Responsibilities
Software Development

• Assist in analyzing data-related problems, formalisms, algorithms, and software applications • Contribute to the development of complex proton therapy algorithms under direct supervision • Support programming activities across multiple systems and technical environments • Participate in software implementation efforts related to proton dose computations and treatment planning

Project Development

• Contribute to analysis activities supporting the development of formalisms, algorithms, and software • Assist with complex applications involving dose computations • Support Monte Carlo techniques used in radiation physics applications • Participate in treatment planning studies utilizing developed computational systems • Contribute to image processing, measurements, and data analysis initiatives related to proton therapy

Infrastructure Tool Development • Develop software tools under direction to address specific operational and scientific challenges • Maintain computational infrastructure supporting treatment planning and dose computation activities • Assist with implementation of new software solutions for measurements and image processing • Support ongoing enhancements to computational systems and technical workflows

Research & Technical Support • Participate in activities related to proton therapy research and treatment planning • Support software maintenance and optimization efforts • Collaborate with technical and scientific teams to resolve computational challenges • Assist with analysis and validation of computational methods and results

Additional Duties • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or related field.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree In a related field.
