The Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Division at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) to support patient care across inpatient and outpatient diagnostic imaging settings. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in radiology and demonstrated experience managing patients in acute or urgent care environments.
APRN candidates must possess certification as a Family/Individual Across the Lifespan provider.
This position delivers high-impact patient care before, during, and after diagnostic and therapeutic radiologic procedures, with a focus on safety, quality, and patient experience.

Schedule & Coverage
- Work Schedule: Monday - Friday
- Four (4) 10.5-11-hour shifts per week
- Coverage Area: West Houston / Energy Crossing Houston Area Locations (HALs)
- Additional Coverage: Intermittent cross-coverage across all Diagnostic Imaging locations as needed

Key Responsibilities
Patient Care: Clinical Assessment, Management, and Documentation
- Respond promptly to emergency situations within Diagnostic Imaging, including but not limited to:
- Falls
- Respiratory distress
- Allergic or contrast reactions
- Port extravasation
- Incidental spinal cord compression
- Seizure activity
- Glycemic emergencies
- Perform targeted patient interviews and physical examinations, initiate treatment when appropriate, and determine patient disposition.
- Deliver exceptional patient and family education through strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Manage post-procedure and post-imaging care for inpatient and outpatient populations, including follow-up coordination and patient instructions.
- Conduct focused history and physical examinations relevant to imaging procedures, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Perform sedation assessments in accordance with institutional policies, including ASA classification, airway assessment, ECOG scoring, and medication management.
- Order, interpret, and act upon relevant laboratory and diagnostic studies.
- Prescribe medications and manage pre-, intra-, and post-procedure care within scope of practice and institutional guidelines.
- Manage common periprocedural issues such as anticoagulation, transfusion needs, contrast administration, lab abnormalities, and post-procedure pain.
- Triage patients and imaging cases appropriately to ensure safe and timely care.
- Ensure accurate, compliant documentation consistent with E&M billing regulations.
- Protocol imaging studies ordered by non-radiology providers to ensure appropriate imaging selection.
Clinical Practice & Collaboration
- Perform consults, follow-up visits, and complete comprehensive history and physical examinations prior to imaging procedures, therapies, and treatments.
- Support Diagnostic Imaging subspecialties including Nuclear Medicine, Neuroradiology, and Breast Imaging.
- Identify and manage pre-procedure medical issues such as hypertension, hypotension, electrolyte imbalances, and uncontrolled diabetes.
- Collaborate closely with Diagnostic Imaging physicians and primary care teams to optimize procedural and treatment planning.
- Participate in clinical research efforts, including data collection, protocol support, and obtaining informed consent when delegated.
